I think Marquis was the first 9er who went out.

Marquis out on day 1

This was on the recent PokerStars blog under Slowroll of the Hour:

Quote:
Dutch Boyd was pondering whether to his opponent's all in on a queen-high board.

"Why do I feel like you have fives?" Boyd said.

His opponent, a man who has seen more years than most of us have seen months, screamed, "What?!"

Boyd repeated himself, but the hard-of-hearing gentleman still didn't understand. Finally, another player at the table got the point across.

Boyd then made his decision, called, and tabled 7-8, good for middle pair.

"How did you know I had fives?" the man asked Boyd.

"Is that really what you have?" Boyd asked, obviously impressed with himself.

"No," the man said, and turned over pocket tens, and then yelled "Televison! I want to be on television!"

I forget the exact details.

I think Gus was a big favorite when the money went in after the flop or turn, but he lost to a straight on the river.

Scotty was all in with two pair AA vs. KT on a paired board KTxx. Four outer K or T on the river made a full house for villain.

I got the Gus hand wrong.

Hansen KO'd Early

On a flop of {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {3-Diamonds}, Norman Gautron bet out and Gus Hansen called. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and Gautron bet again. Hansen raised and then Gautron moved all in. Hansen snap-called with {A-?} {J-?} for the Broadway straight. Gautron held pocket threes for bottom set.

The river was a dagger to the heart of Hansen when the {K-Diamonds} paired the board, sending him to the rail."

It's All Over Baby

Scotty Nguyen has been knocked out by Brandon Lee after all the money went in a board of {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Nguyen was in fine shape with {A-?} {A-?} but Lee's {K-Hearts} {10-Spades} got there on the {K-Clubs} river to make a very disappointed Nguyen head for the rail.

Welcome Back From Dinner Mr. Hellmuth
We got to the table on the turn with the board reading . Phil Hellmuth was facing a bet of 20,000 from his opponent. It appeared as if Hellmuth checked over to his opponent on the turn. There was also nearly 50,000 chips in the pot. Hellmuth asked for a count after a few moments and the player responded, "About 140,000 left." Hellmuth then wanted an exact count and the dealer took over.

"142,000." said the dealer.

"Okay, I'm all in." announced Hellmuth.

"I call." announced his opponent.

Hellmuth tabled pocket kings, , and his opponent showed . The set-over-set cooler had Hellmuth looking to move upwards of 600,000 if he could dodge the one out his opponent had. The river was the and Hellmuth's opponent got up and exited the tournament.

With that pot, Hellmuth is now at 595,000 chips.

I think a lot of pros will make deep runs this year. The better structure at this year's WSOP has really rewarded the skilled players.

The money bubble should burst sometime tomorrow afternoon.
