Negreanu won 2.7 million a day before the series started, plus he has you tube and poker stars revenue lol.

How did the One Drop chop work? They chopped the first 8 million and played for the 2nd 8 million - how does JB get 8.8 million from that? Is that after tax?

For me, nothing can top how cool Peter Eastgate was on the last hand:

Re: WSOP 2018 results/tournament discussion (**NO SPOILERS**)

Cynn didn’t seem like the most outwardly emotional guy to begin with (though of course I don’t know). Add in a somewhat strange final hand and the exhaustion and the reaction isn’t that surprising.

One would presume that the possibility of making a deal is covered in the agreement, or discussed during the event, and that the backer would be in favor of making the deal and locking in the profit to at least the same extent that the player is.

But if the player secretly makes a deal that wins him $X and then goes out in the tournament so his official payout is less, and keeps the deal quiet from the backer? Yeah, that’s pretty clearly shady if not legally fraudulent.

Re: WSOP 2018 results/tournament discussion (**NO SPOILERS**)

If you have a full backer and a makeup deal then obviously itís between you and your backer to discuss whether to take any deals.

When selling pieces to an individual event, in my experience I let anyone that takes a piece know that I will decide about any deals and they will have to trust me to do that. It is not feasible to get approval from multiple people to make a deal at the wsop since they donít help facilitate anything. You also have to get heads up (or maybe 3 handed) with people you completely trust which isnít likely except maybe in a high roller like here.

Re: WSOP 2018 results/tournament discussion (**NO SPOILERS**)

It's not so much about approval as it would be nice to be told the second the chop deal is made. So you know where you stand and there's less chance of angle shooting. When you only find out about the chop after your horse wins, it just doesn't sit 100% well.

If you had a piece of Fedor instead it would be a pleasant surprise

When they got to heads up there was $4m to play for - the difference between first ($10m) and second ($6m). So they chopped $2m (evidently roughly $1.3m for Fedor and $700k for Justin, as Fedor had the chip lead at the start of HU). They then played on for the extra $2m which Bonomo won

Demidov had publicised shortly after his win in 2009 that he’d “had problems with his backer and was owed money by a lot of people”, but the extent of this “problem” wasn’t made clear until very recently when he spoke with All-In Magazine:

“The second place finish has changed my life completely, but not because of the money I won, as I haven’t received any. That’s a long and dark story, but basically my backer didn’t pay me and I ended up not getting any prize money.”

Of course, he also won some $600,000 more that year by final tabling the WSOPE Main Event, and that figure would have fallen under the same staking agreement.

The alleged deal outlined that Demidov’s backer would keep 80% of his winnings, but after a rumoured bankruptcy was “forced” to keep the whole sum. Demidov had also been backed by the same unnamed individual the year before at the 2007 series, and lost $150,000.
His backer filed bankruptcy, and was "forced" to keep all they money? I don't understand...

So Demidov gave him the full amount, and backer was just like "Ya, I'm not giving you any back"?
Just keep 20, and give him 80?

It was really messedup. If i personally was staked in a poker tourney regardless of the buy in i would receive the money from the casino and then give the agreed cut to the backer. if he has personal problems or whatever thats his problem. Never in a million years i will hand over the full amount to the backer and have him give me the money i earned.

What i heard is Demidov ws threatened at the time to give it up and he got scared and hoped for the best and he got screwed at the end. Real sad situation

One thing Cynn and Eastgate had in common that might explain their subdued reaction: this was the first year since Eastgate's win in '08 that the last hand of the Main Event wasn't all-in preflop. So there was no anticipation and sweating of a river card, the opponent was already drawing dead.

In Russia, backing means backer has option to just put his dic on your back instead of paying. Completely standard

Dude sucked out on me on river to stay alive on Day 2 that Year anyway

In the article, it stated that dealers make $41 an hour BEFORE tips. I called them out on Twitter, there is no way that is true. $14 I could possibly believe.

If it's $14, that includes the 3% rake or something they pull out of each tourney or its just the base pay?
