Just chose one of the many posts on this hand, so not singling you out, but the quoted was just not an option.

I was in Seat 7 for this hand and played with both of them the rest of the day. The hand was very intense and probably one of the few hands I've witnessed live that deserved the 10 minutes or so it took.

Right as soon as he folded (Graner) threw his cards to the muck and before they could hit some woman who was not the dealer, floor, or casino employee came out of no where and grabbed the cards. Graner was obviously already annoyed from the hand and said something to the affect of "who are you?" and takes his cards and tries to muck them again. She just replies "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" and now its a scene.

Dan Smith diffused the situation by mucking his hand during the scene and thus they couldn't put it on TV and everything subsided.

Who do ESPN think they are pulling stunts like that. I would be totally pissed if they tried that on with me after just folding a big hand.

You sign a waiver to allow your image to be used by media companies, but nothing on it was about interfering with play from what I remember.

Is espn going to televise live before the final table? I love watching without knowing the cards. I'm sure this is boring to non players but I love trying to determine someones hand. Also I love how it shows the true dynamics of tournament play and doesn't only show coolers.

ESPN crews don't ask you to table your hand, they ask you to show them to their camera.
It's not interfering with play.
Wasn't a penalty given last year for not showing? Asian guy who made the hero call for his stack with bottom pair.

That was for not showing them to the hole cam on a tv table, not the same thing.

This. There are 291 players left and precisely 0 of them move the needle.

It falls under the same rules/release that all players sign up to in any WSOP event, ME or otherwise.

So if you play the Main event you have no choice but to have you hole cards shown even if you don't want them to be shown? I never played a live mtt so I was just curious as to how that worked.

When ESPN are roaming the floor with their cameras, whenever they want to film holecards, they can. Remember, they often show outer table action. In the case of action on an outer table, once the hand is complete, they ask the players to show their holecards to the camera so they can later edit in the holecard graphics for the broadcast. They try to do it in a way that other players cannot see the cards.

Note, this is not the same as being forced to table your hand and letting the whole table see it.

It's not about who I get excited about. I'll be riveted no matter who's in it. It's about creating excitement for the broadcasts to attract more fans and players to the game. I think that's what we all want most of all isn't it? So it may not be a good year for that, although some storylines can still develop.

I did not know that was included in the waiver, thanks. Still has to be a better way to do it than it appearing as though some random just steps up and grabs the cards.

There was no river. You can muck. There is nothing in the waiver about them having physical access to your cards. It's sketchy enough when a player at the table grabs your cards let alone some random from the rail. Way out of line and not in the waiver.

So what is exactly entailed in the waiver? Do you have to sign the waiver before you even play the Main Event?

The broad that went for the cards should have at least had a name badge on. Can't really blame the guy for his initial reaction. I'm thinking a reaction of, "who the **** are you?" then followed with, "no ID badge then gtfo" would have been deemed reasonable. From seat 7's description of the situation, it sounds unclear that anyone knew who this person was and what she was doing going for the cards. Instead of saying you can't do that, she could have just said, "I'm with espn and we need to see the cards." Sounds like she was a noob and could have communicated what was going on better. He could have justifiably been a lot nastier to her. However, she may get a pass is she resembles this fine specimen....

Pokernews has an interview up with Dan Smith who was the villain in the hand and he mostly agreed with the guy who didn't want to show. He also said they were basically asking him to table his hand.

Edit: I see it's already been explained itt.

WOW. MacPhee must be on cloud nine.

From Pokernews

Kevin MacPhee opened with a raise to 39,000, and Soon Hwang reraised all in for 704,000. MacPhee called with the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} to put over 80% of his chips on the line against Hwang, who had the {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The flop was huge for Hwang when the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} fell to give him trips. The turn was the {9-Clubs} to give MacPhee a flush draw, but the {A-Spades} on the river didn't do it.

Hwang doubled and MacPhee was left with 150,000 in chips.

your list missing some notables

Kyle Keranen was chipleader with 97 left in 2012 but got coolered all day to finish in like 60th. Now he's back with the chiplead with 250 left. They might give him a lot of coverage like with Matt Affleck.

Michiko Aoki. The girl who is cute and finished 2nd in ladies event. She's a very good player, puts people to very tough decisions. Ran some nice bluffs already in this tourney.

Darlene Lee and Marcia Kuntz - more female players running deep.

Jesper Hougaard. Bracelet winner and has run deep in the main event 4 times since 2007.

Jason Johnson. Great online player. FT two events at wsop this year, including 7th place in the Millionaire Maker.

Kevin Eyster. Won the 5K 6 max this year against a tough FT.

Eddy Sabat. Known pro with millions of dollars in live MTT earnings.

Stephen Graner. Sick player. He FT the Millionaire Maker with huge chip lead only to get coolered and finish 6th. He could play a villain role this year (undeservedly but whatever) after that hand with Dan Smith.

Byron Kaverman. 3+ million in live MTT earnings. Finished 34th just last year in main event. Another Matt Affleck story if he can build a stack.

Jakob Tostesen. Great Denmark player. 40th place finisher in 2010 Main Event.

Patrick Coughlin. The guy who lost full house to Allen Cunningham's quad deuces deep in the 2011 main event.

Manig Loeser. 1+ million in live MTT. German pro.

Brian Roberts. Millions of dollars in live MTT. Deep run in WSOPE Main Event. Unreal player. So good.

Vladimir Schemelev. Bracelet winner. Owned Michael Mizrachi going HU for bracelet at the poker player's event in 2010 until Mizrachi went on a heater and cooled him time after time.

Chanracy Khun. WPT champ. Went deep in the main in 2012. He was at the feature table with Matt Marafioti and crazy Henry Tran. Good player.

There u have it. This field is absolutely stacked with great talent, maybe more so than ever before. IDGAF about the lack of known pros. They HURT the broadcast. Including you list we have like 40 players left with great talent and great stories.

I really think a female is gonna FT this one. Aoki and Maria Ho are both great players, so if it's ever going to happen it appears now is the time.

Can't wait for some of the crazy day 6/7 hands that will play out and chipleader meltdowns. Newhouse going for back to back is just Epic. Glad it's him going for the Dan Harrington. Mark was far and away the best November niner last year.
