I didn't watch the play-down from 27 to nine but didn't Pappas largely do that for much of Day 6 and 7? It seems like he'd get down to a short stack, pick up a big hand at the right time or flop a set at the right time to triple up, then rinse and repeat.
I'll go back through the hand reports but I feel like this was his M.O. for getting to the N9 in the first place.
Edit: yes, I am remembering this wrong. He had a big four-way all-in when the field still had about 13 tables then was off to the races. By Day 6 and 7, he chipped up as one would expect for a big stack.
