Which country do you rank as the best for poker talent EXCEPT the USA? (Ivey being American kinda ends the thread otherwise).

I'd go with Finland. Antonius, Ilari, Lars... sick country for poker.

Could you post a poll too, along with names of players for each county?

Not historically, they don't

I was thinking about whether Germany should be listed but then couldn't really name a handful of players who I thought of as 'the next big thing'. Floriann Langman and Seb Ruthenburg obviously get shouts, as does Boku87 for grinding skills. Somehow Katja Thater and Thomas Bihl isn't cutting it for me, though.

Edit: Sandra Naujoks can play, should have mentioned her...

Germany may have a lot of poker players but it definitely doesn't have a lot of talented poker players.

lol what?

France shouldnt be included there.

I think people give us less credit that we deserve.

Fisheye is playing high consistently.

I wouldnt vote for Germany, but Vietnam and France have no business being on that list, if Germany isnt.

Finland seems to be good. Not many players, but the ones they have, are indeed very good.

small sample size and skewed by the big tournies, but for 2009 WSOP:

0. United States $2,182,443,853
2. United Kingdom $214,519,883
3. Canada $124,171,441
4. Sweden $65,585,629
5. France $63,796,086
6. Australia $54,218,978
7. Germany $49,156,431
8. Denmark $46,701,417
9. Italy $33,132,808
10. Ireland $32,813,824

Finland has a few amazing players, but not sure we can give them the overall title. UK looks good, esp since there aren't tons at the WSOP, but I still vote Canada

ps i'm biased

How the hell do the UK, Russia & France even make it onto this poll?

I go either Canada or Finland. Putting France on the list has to be a level, right???

Moorman, Chadwick, Akenhead, Ashby, Akery, Schwartz, Bansi for UK.

France: ElkY for starters (one of the best NLHE MTT player in the world right now), and a handful of guys who have done well on EPT: Ludovic Lacay (deep WSOP '09 run too) and Arnaud Mattern, for instance. Considering they are so far behind the rest of Europe in terms of allowing their players to play online, they're doing pretty good imo.

Russia: Demidov and Alekhin both did well last year, and they have some monster online players too. Kostritsyn won Aussie Millions as well. Yes they are donkaments but we're looking at the broader picture, right?

Can I hazard a guess and say that, for the most part, your nationality should have **** all to do with how good at poker you are.

France : Benyamine, Fitoussi

They are still as a nation so bad at poker its unbelievable. Its almost as if a french pro player brought out a book 20 years ago Super System : How To Lose A Million Dollars limp folding and check raising top pair

I think that oft used phrase - sample size - comes into play here. Let's look at countrys/players in general, and not a few tournament pros.
