I think you are on to something. I really don't think "cash game" players make much....very small edge. People like to play poker and most really like to the illusion that it could replace their ****ty jobs/careers and elevate their life status...i have fallen for this myself and I have played for 20 years.

the money was, and likely not anymore, in winning a huge TV event and then with personality, leveraging that fame into a sponsorship.

I play because on some level I think this game is getting a bad rap and that I am probably better than a few , and on the most minimal level my honest contribution may help. That is why I play. And bc no matter how old you get, its not divided by age, race, religion, only skill and therefore we can all compete.

So many of you all dont get it, your idolizing CHUMP CHANGE, lol, even them has beens, who USED to run some rando training site, to benefit themselves, are STILL... Nobodies..

lol yo online poker morons

i may be a fish. I am a winner online but very small winner over years. I play live with some accomplished players and hold my own. I beat bad players for huge win rate but find it hard to beat good players for anywhere close to 6 figures a year. I would need to make $200k/year to even think about poker replacing my day job and i don't think that is possible for 99% of the players.

Do you make $200k/yr consistently playing poker?

You don't necessarily need to beat the good ones.
Take what you can and be happy w it.
If it's not enough for you to live on,then you have yourselves a profitable hobby.Fair enough in my book.

I can tell by your attitudes you both SUCK, and probably spend less than 10 days/yr- of your so called, 'poker careers' at the Borgata/Florida/Vegas playing poker...

Surely bc you have the most trollbot freinds willing to come into a thread your the best right..

Are you both sure???

i am posting on here, on this topic, because i am curious. I don't know the answer. I know people can crush $1/2 live and low stakes online. I am talking about making career type money to replace a day job. Poker is a hobby for me but i would love to by heading to Macau to make $250k in a weekend.....how many people are doing that?

I have no interest in grinding 8 tables online to make $30/hr.

I wanna know how to make real money or confirm what i suspect...that bumhunting is the only way to make it, or bink a MTT.

Fedor a GIMP with les than 25 % of heemself errytime

Oh and they SOFT PLAYING them so called, 'SUPER HIGH ROLLERS LOL.. Try super high CLICK GAMES.. they are click and softplaygin then games. Who else would risk 250k per, with no edge...

Come to the BORGATA UNIVERSITY where you click dont matter, see if you all win the same rate on the East Coast IMO.

It's not a sensible career choice in 2016 but as others have said if you are going to take some hobby seriously Poker still has more chance of showing a profit than golf, chess, football, computer games etc.

Gota disagree there, there is way more money in competitive video games then there is in online poker now, and I'd probably wager there is more people making a living from it then solely from online poker right now as well (and that number will continue to grow, while pokers will decline as stars continues to increase rake).

there's also way more people playing computer games at a competitive level than playing poker competitively. Your odds of making a living from online poker are significantly better than making a living playing computer games.

As much as people like to say poker is so tough these days (and they are right), it's still a lot softer than most forms of competition.
