Why poker players should get to know Gary Johnson Why poker players should get to know Gary Johnson

06-28-2011 , 02:25 PM
Gary Johnson is the former two-term Governor of New Mexico, a Republican candidate for President, and a long-time defender of personal freedom.

And that freedom includes your right to play online poker.

Governor Johnson has strongly condemned the federal crackdown on online poker, arguing that the right to assume risk and to gamble (in the privacy of one's own home, no less) is a basic right that should not involve the government.

Governor Johnson has issued the following statement: “Government has absolutely no business telling Americans what they can do with their own time and their own money on their own computers, and that most certainly should apply to playing poker online. The fact that Americans are now prevented from playing online poker is an outrage. Unfortunately it is but another chilling example of how Congress and the Justice Department continue to trample on our personal liberty.

“As President, I will do everything in my power to restore your right to play online poker, and ensure that such a right can never be taken away again.”

Hi Everyone:

Let's welcome Gov Johnson to our forums. He's the former governor of New Mexico, is running for the Republican nomination for president, and is a big supporter of our right to play poker on the Internet with our own money.

Also, Gov Johnson will be attending our annual 2+2 party at The Wynn on July 7 so we'll all get a chance to meet him. So again, let's give him a big welcome to www.twoplustwo.com, and we'll be doing more with Gov Johnson in the future.

Best wishes,
Mason

Welcome, Governor Johnson. We look forward to your participation. I realize some people might be surprised to see a presidential candidate posting on Two Plus Two, but I assure you it's for real.

Is his plan to bring government regulation to online poker or to find some way around the UIGEA and declare it unconstitutional or something like that?

Awesome! Welcome Governor Johnson! I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

This guy or Ron Paul are our only hope this election, too bad the media has tried to marginalize Gary, as he was excluded from the CNN republican debate, even though he was polling high enough based on CNN's own guidelines. Another true patriot brushed under the rug by the powers that be.

Let's spread the word! If he Polls higher next time they will have to include him in the debates. Which if you watch some of his speeches, he will destroy these phony politicians.

I've seen you on Stossel a few times and like your positions. Hoping you make waves and take it down.

Wow, I just booked my LV time this next week but will leave just prior to the 2+2 gathering this time... maybe I would have changed my plans had I known

Nice to see some republicans pushing for our liberties and freedoms at a time when religious minded social conservatives are taking over the party. Welcome Governor and thanks for standing up for our rights as tax paying Americans!

Wait, you mean I may vote for a Republican this election?? How odd.

What are your stances on some other major issues, Sir? And welcome!

Greg Raymer, John Pappas and I met Governor Johnson at CPAC earlier this year. The governor is a true friend of poker, to be sure.

Welcome!

Hopefully you are able to use your influence (both now and in the future) to help bring online poker back to the United States!

I have a question. Is the former govenor going to allow us to play back on the international sites like we had before or is he in support of regulation but allowing said sites to join the US?
