Any ideas? I'm a family man so not looking for a live poker or party scene. I'm mainly concerned with tax/cost of living and quality of life issues. Right now we are looking at hawaii, which would just be for fun and obviously wouldn't save money, but it sure is nice there.

The correct answer is mostly certainly not in the US.

Austin, TX: cheap, good weather, tons of 20something hotties.

Most importantly, no state income tax.

If you are a family man, then you need to keep your family as happy as possible. Playing poker for a living is hard on a family. That usually means keeping your wife happy. Keeping your wife happy means living close to her family. You're going to be playing odd hours and weekends. If she is around her family and friends, she isn't going to nearly mind as much.

If you are a US citizen (as it seems), then getting a legal visa to live in another country is no small undertaking. Without a sponsor, this will be difficult. You are legally obligated to pay US taxes no matter where you live.

As for a state, Oklahoma has the lowest cost of living in the US. Oklahoma City and Tulsa aren't that bad.

In the end, moving is expensive. Don't move until you have a regular income to convince your family this is a lifestyle that will work for you.

I live in northern Minnesota. Its cheap to live here and I love it here. But it's too cold for the average person.

Wife actually doesn't want to live by her family. We would have done that years ago otherwise. Establishing income isn't an issue, we've been doing poker full time for 6 years now and are quite happy with it.

Thx for the link, mod. Appreciate the help you guys.

I haven't looked at prices in Monaco but i'm pretty sure my low 6-figure income wouldn't justify that move. I usually make somewhere between 150-200k, if that helps any suggestions.

I tried getting a job once to make our church friends happy and we ran out of money real quick.

I DON'T HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT YOUR RELOCATION BUT I DEFINATLY THINK YOU SHOULD READ "LETTERS TO A CHRISTIAN NATION" BY SAM HARRIS. THANK ME LATER.

i would definately recommend Australia.

No poker tax, experiencing a poker boom. Stars are heaavy in the market and a very profitable pub league market with ridiculously good prizes (i.e last year there was an aussie millions satellite running for 50 bucks and only 50 runners. Overlay in the Thousands).

Melbourne- european style city.
sydney- nice climate, huge american style city.
Sunshine coast- tropical nice outdoor place.
Perth- boom city, very nice if isolated.
Adelaide- quiet and peaceful.
Canberra-as above.

That is just the major cities.
Tell me what you want ill hook you up more clearly.

OP, as regards Scranton, PA:
>cost of living: kinda cheap
>quality of life: kinda cheap.
