I see so many people buy in for 20-40 BB. If they are going to buy in for 20-40k, why not just play lower stakes?

Obviously playing against the elite online players, they will not want to be left to make a big decision for 100k+. Its easier to just shove 20k-30k preflop.

Lets also note that most of the players in these games Lars, PA, Ivey, Durrrr are ridiculously aggressive and the best way to counter this type of player is to short stack and use your fold equity.

Overall, I think shortstacking can be an optimal and profitable strategy at the high limit tables.

It can be very profitable with the dynamics of the tables. Get dealt JT9Q ds and get it in and you could probably have situations where you might be able to triple/quadruple up.

difficult to play PLO with middle stacks

easier for the inexperienced or, yes, i said it, cowardly
to play with a short stack
