Yep, 12/1 is too long for him. I think he's started doing ok on the UKIPT and has some skill for sure. One double up puts him right in it. Just think Benba at 5/1+ has to be worth a punt if you're looking for the winner. Holden definitely a good value bet though.

This has to be the most skilled final table in recent history though.
Agree most skilled...
But totally lacking in charisma...
Personality is what matters in Entertainment.

Imagine Lamb/Staszko as the New Face of Poker...
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

I'm actually starting to miss Annie and Ivey.

anyway, hope I'm wrong since I'm rooting for lamb too, but I really think giannetti has what it takes.
You do realize that Benba got 2nd in a 3k PLO event in addition to his 1st place in the 10k PLO. Getting 8th in the players championship is hardly something to not call "deep" and 13th in the 10k 6max is super deep as well. Not sure where the comment on "loses a lot of strength at the final table" comes from... 1st, 2nd, 8th. Seems solid to me.

If you think about Bounahra could actually have the opportunity to really take advantage of the 4 month break and come back and put himself in good position to win the tournament.

Pretty much everyone at the table thinks he's a total nit and looks disappointed and shoves his stack when he's super strong, like in the KKvKQ hand. If he got some good coaches, he could actually 3bet really light in a lot of spots in november and reverse his tells - act fast when you hold the nuts and fumble and look down-trodden when you're bluffing.

No, but what has happened is that as knowledge of the game has flattened at out the top levels, physical fitness and youth are becoming more and more important. If many players have basically equal knowledge, the people who are in better physical shape and closer to their physical/mental prime (early/mid 20s) are going to on average have the better chance to win, because they will have the most stamina to continue making correct decisions after weeks and weeks of 14hr poker days.

It's been moving in this direction for a while now but this year we are really seeing it in full force.

Anyone who cares about luck vs skill debate has to be pulling for Lamb. Objectively it doesn't tell us anything new - obviously the guy has had to run good as well as play good - but since when have facts got in the way of a good story?

I suppose the question is though whether the luck vs skill debate skewing towards skill could have negative unintended consequences on the size of the player pool.

Maybe you are right when it comes to grinders who don't take care of themselves. But mid-20s is hardly "physical/mental prime" in general. It's just that 1.) these kids grew up with the "right" strategies and 2.) they have fewer of the distractions/commitments that keep others away (or distracted), who are actually closer to their prime.

It's not completely clear what this poll is asking, but as always going into the FT, the clear chip leader is the favorite to win. Especially this year when there is no obvious donkey.

As far as "best player" so far Lamb has impressed me the most. He is aggressive but it seems like he knows how to change gears and apply pressure in the right spots instead of spewing.

The first person to win a big flip.

Worst part of the "November Nine" concept is that with the added EV in the final 9, everyone nits it up on the bubble, causing the blinds to rise to insane levels before the final 9 is determined. There isn't that much room for play beyond "all in and a call" which is good for ESPN, but not for poker fans.

Eh, that's pretty much how every tournament everywhere has always been, unless they do something drastic like roll back the blinds. It has far more to do with basic tournament ICM/incremental payout structure than the Nov. 9 idea specifically.

Saying Lamb wont close because he hasnt closed in the "past 4 weeks on a few occasions" is just silly. Experience counts for something, even if that experience is beating 99% of the field to not close a FT.

Anyone but Heinz, he tilts the living daylights out of me for some reason.
