I don't think it's Thor Hansen who said it and here is why:

In 2009 April I was in Cyprus and a group of USA players came to Merit Casino for arranging the WPT in summer. This story was told by a friend of Chris Karagulleyan (who was also a poker player), while he was present, and so was Todd Brunson. After we needled them about why Chris wasn't playing cash games with us, his friend replied by saying Chris is always broke, even after shipping a major one, and told this story as it happened to Chris.

We played a lot with Chris later on (and realized he wasn't really a tourny donk) who was a fun guy who also spoke decent Turkish as it turned out. And this story, as it happened to Chris, was repeated a few times.

I mean it may be that they lied about it, but I think Todd Brunson would know if they did.

I read this story before 2009 in a poker magazine where it was attributed to Thor Hansen. Some lines are so good they're worth stealing.

Edit: Also, Google is your friend:

Frequently winning vast sums and then frequently broke a few days later, Hansen is the original source of one of the most oft-repeated poker quotes of them all. After winning close to a million dollars in a major tournament, Hansen was asked what he would do with the money.

"I'll pay off a few debts," Hansen said.
"What will you do with the rest?"
"Oh, they'll have to wait."

The WPT he won in 2002 paid 258k to Chris (which is where they said the quote comes from). This was pre-boom and major tournaments had small prizes where you could ship one and still not have enough money to cover debts (considering you don't have 100% of yourself). From this article that you linked:

Quote:
Hansen has stories that can take you through the night, into the next morning, past lunch and through sunset again before they get anywhere near to being boring. Hansen knew (and backed) Stuey Ungar; he is still best friends with Eric Drache; he has scaled heights and plumbed depths that would make any of the new breed of so-called "degens" go running back to their mommies.
This guy has a lot of stories. Chris, on the other hand, had one. I have been at the same table with him about 200 hours and he didn't have ONE other story. I don't trust guys with lots of stories.

I still think Chris may have made the original quote and this guy may have heard it and re-made it. People who have a lot of stories usually have about 75% of recycled stories. The fact that Todd Brunson was present (who, I think, is supposed to know these things) adds up to the fact that I trust the original quote is from him.

Last but not the least, to them at that point in time, we were two random Turkish donks who were trying to get a game going with them. They had no reason to try to impress us. While this Hansen guy seems like he is interested a lot in impressing people with stories.

Anyway ofc it could have been Hansen who said it, there is no way I can know for sure.
