Put differently say there was a billion dollar reward if you got into the top ten in poker skill (given it could somehow be measured). So the whole world was trying. It is likely that none of the top ten would stay up there. And if they did, their skill would be a lot more "immense" than it is now.
That same reward would have a much smaller effect on the top echelon of those other activities. Because there is less room for improvement.
