Yeah clearly Jungle isnt giving these guys credit for being able to bluff, but its pretty reasonable to believe hellmuth wont be bluffing giving 6:1 OTR, and diamond is pretty terrible.
And berkey was just overplaying, which is hard to anticipate

Interesting to see Negreanu's tweets, for those that havent seen he basically put out a series of tweets saying that whilst he believes he was the best in early 2000's, he no longer thinks he's up to the level of the top pros and wants to study to try and get to their level. Also said he believes hes currently top 100 and wants to be top 20 within a few months.
This kind of spiralled into a debate with Hellmuth, where Phil just did his usual telling Daniel he's deluded, all the pros have big leaks and he has the best ROI in NL history

You have to read the tweets for context. Phil wanted a list of 40 players that Daniel thinks are better than Phil in NLHE tournaments. Doesn't necessarily mean these are top 40, just better than Phil. Plus he compiled the list in 6 minutes so....

I guess there's another prop bet brewing. Something in the lines of "let's see where these guys are in 2024".

not really a top 40 list. he clearly said its just a list of a bunch of guys who he thinks would crush hellmuth. he clearly said that he jotted it down in 5 minutes.

I think he had to leave out Polk and Cates because Hellmuth recently beat them heads up in the high profile King of the Hill. It would have given Hellmuth an easy counter argument if those names were included, even if we all feel that over a bigger sample they both have an edge.

The basic point, though, is that there is a new school of live NLHE players that will outplay Hellmuth. When Negreanu said that there were 40 players who are better he had to throw in a lot of names beyond the obvious names that precipitated the whole spat e.g. Fedor Holz and Steffen Sontheimer.

Negreanu gets some respect for arguing this out with Hellmuth and also for admitting his game needs some work. After all of that crap about rake plus some general flakiness in his vlogging etc, this is the realest thing he's done/said in a while.

What's also surprised me with this whole thing is how many people following poker are still living in like 2010. When things were kicking off on Twitter and people were naming good players, most of the players mentioned are hardly on the current scene. I don't think the average poker fan appreciates that the European pros have continued to hone poker since Poker After Dark went off the air.

I mean, to anyone competent, koth matches only showed how far behind Hellmuth is with his understanding of the game. Then again, Negreanu tweets are not adressed to competent people.

You gotta be good to beat that many "thinking players."

I mean, yeah, he logged in ~10k hands on FT high stakes and made tens of millions $. No other player has this kind of bb/100. Not even close
