He gives penalties at people who don't deserve it (Kassouf) and gives NO penalties to people who really deserved it, like Hellmuth now, I am a HUGE Hellmuth fan, I adore his passion for poker, his books are great to read, but he went out of line and they let him get away with it because he is Hellmuth. Mike Matasow was truly bad in the day (circa 2006) - loud, vulgar, obnoxious, and totally self-absorbed. Basically a total and complete pompous ******* at the table. He is the worst "Professional" I ever had the displeasure to play against.

The only caveat is it should be noted this was over a decade ago.

I always thought PH was a jerk for TV time and may behave differently when the spot light isn't on him. Does anyone have any stories from playing with PH?

Played a 1k LAPC tournament with phil at my table for a few hours. He was actually really fun to be around and didn't even try to focus every convo on himself. I'm guessing because it was a 1k and there weren't any cameras in a 100 mile radius.

I should note almost everything phil says on camera tilts the **** out of me so I was quite surprised he was acting like a normal human being.

He seems like a mellow guy these days. I think the reality of the variance train has humbled him a lot.

This is completely untrue. I have played with him and he was very pleasant to be around.

Not sure what happened to him after that and his Hendon Mob seems to now be disabled.

He strolled into my local card room and sat at the £1/2/5 PLO table I was at.

He was splashing around in every pot and generally being disrespectful to anything and everything around him. He was playing pretty bad but getting away with it.

I then get into a pot with him. ~£500 by the river. I was OOP and a flush came on the river. I had the Q high flush and decided that my best play was to lead with a 1/3rd pot blocker bet as this was a good way to prevent being bluffed and might get paid off by a straight. Anyway, you can guess what happened, he potted it. I folded, he showed the nut flush and blurted out "thank you for the donation", in a sort of sinister film baddie voice, which is how he speaks.

I thought who the f*** does this guy think he is. I was absolutely fuming and in an insta second gained the strength of a miniature Incredible Hulk. Later on that evening another reg said he thought I was about to jump over the table and attack Galic. I did feel like doing that but counted to 10 and went to the toilets to splash some water on my face, calm down and to tell myself that the guy was a PLO fish so just be professional and play my game.

The following day I found out who he was as he at some point told us his name was Dragan and it was then that I saw that he was known for needling players in tournaments and also that he was a brown belt in martial arts! So a lucky miss for me as I think my in the moment mini Hulk would still have taken a massive beating in a fight.

It also turned out that he was in town (London) to play a high roller Hold'em tournament the following day so probably explained why he was splashing around in a small PLO game the night before.

The rage was internal, I didn't respond to him but clearly it was written on my face. I guess in that 10 seconds I was weighing up all of the possible consequences (almost all of them entirely bad) of acting on my anger.

I haven't punched anyone or been involved in any sort of physical confrontation since playground "fights" at school, and that was about 40 years ago.

His needling, combined with his general arrogance and disrespect to everyone, not just towards me, was super bad.

Hands down winner for most annoying.
