I think a majority of the people at the highest stakes are there because they are degenerates with their money. A hand full are more committed and/or talented that everyone else. While the rest have the same skillset as a mid/high stakes player but are degenerates and were fortunate.
Here's the thing: Being very aggressive with your BRM can pay off huge if you're willing and able to accept some big setbacks and back off when things go wrong.
Pretty sure every time I moved up significantly in stakes, it was mostly the result of taking a shot and having it go well. I think a fair number of players fall into one of two extremes - either they never take shots, or they take a shot and if it goes badly, they dust off 80% of their roll before they back down.
It should be no surprise that poker players who are the best at taking well timed risks are the ones pulling in the most cash.
