The 3 main purposes of wearing a mask currently in my opinion are:

1. Respect the situation
2. The common folk can't get tested regularly, so to avoid spreading it to others
3. Hopefully deter you from touching your face with yours hands

You can still get this with a mask. In a poker room people will be eating/drinking/adjusting there masks with there hands... gloves or not still will be dirty.

We need to build our immune systems or focus on online poker.

A dealer I know has always coated his hands in fizzy rubbing alcohol in between tables. It looks like he's holding massive gobs of shaving cream in each hand before he lathers up.

The tables in the video appear to be blackjack style tables. Even so, I'm wondering if chips are completely out of the players' hands and entirely behind the barrier.

Does anyone know which phase of reopening Casinos fall under?

Can't wait for some idiot to describe mask wearing as a form of virtue signaling.

I think it depends where you are located.
By the sound of it (from twitter and the other corona thread in NVG), Vegas casinos will only open if/when they can do all the social distancing stuff, like having thermometers at the entrance and sneeze-protectors on the tables. Some casinos are extending their closures and are letting staff go. It's looking pretty bad.

Mask wearing is a form of virtue signaling.

So is someone giving a touching eulogy at your funeral.

Your pick.

News story for LV says 4-max poker table! I would love to play more short-handed live poker but I am in the minority. I am not sure you could even get that many games to run?

Nice black and white Dirty Harry style post, but just because a mask is obviously helpful to protect yourself from the virus doesn't mean that some people can't use it as a prop for their virtue signalling.

Dog track poker room in Tampa announced they are opening on 11 May. They are the only one in the area so far. They are going to have 6 max, 15 out of 50 tables in play, and require both dealers and players to wear masks and gloves. Temperature will be taken before being allowed to enter.

No real feel for what the response will be. In the "old days" when a table hit 6, people were getting antsy and looking around for a table change or table break. Plus wearing masks and gloves for hours can be quite uncomfortable. Guess we'll find out in about a week how it goes.

Played there for a couple weeks last summer. Older crowd who aren't gonna like 6 handed.

Anyone that thinks 6 max is going to be safer and the plexi glass is naive. Plus the games may be as tough as online as I just do not see as many recreational players.

If a reliable 5 minute test is created why not the following for poker clubs
  • Temperature Scan upon arrival and hand disinfect stations upon entry
  • 5 minute Covid 19 test for all players and staff
  • Wash all chips when cashed in
  • change and sanitize decks hourly
  • 9 max tables

Also I will not be playing till its 9 handed and their is less than 10 cases daily in my province and no intentions of going to Vegas till there is a vaccine

Played there several times when I lived in Tampa. Don't see the point of 6 handed. Standard tables with masks seems no less risky.

Atlantic City is suggesting customers will be required to wear masks!

I won't set foot at a poker table if I have to wear a mask. Poker causes anxiety. The very act of wearing a mask creates anxiety.

Additionally, masks are uncomfortable for more than brief stints. How can I do a 14 hour session in a mask?

I don't think I'm alone in this. Casino regulators better get their heads out of their asses or the Casino industry will decline by 80% over the next two years.

The very act of being around people not wearing a mask creates anxiety for other people. Why should your anxiety be fixed before theirs? People who feel the way you do about masks appear to be in a distinct minority. I would not be shocked if the people who refuse to play with masks being mandatory outnumber those who refuse to play with a mask on.

The days of “10 dirty degenerates” are now in the dinosaur museum next to the cigar trays at the table. Anyone who expects live poker to return anytime soon in a form greater than short-handed (5-6max) simply isn’t paying attention or in some sort of denial as to what is occurring in this country.
That would be awesome, ngl. I love playing short handed. The toughest players in the room become absolute fish in shorthanded situations.

Im an essential worker and I have to wear a mask for my entire 12hr/day shift. After the first day you forget youre even wearing it.Im also wearing safety glasses.. I can wait to play poker, its just a hobby of mine and playing online is what Im doing when I get the urge to gamble. But my god I cant wait to step on the casino floor again haha

Not going to Vegas as long as masks and social distancing rules are still in place. What would be the fun in that? Not playing live poker until there is an effective vaccine and it’s 9 handed.

Yea, I was required to wear one as well. It caused my glasses to fog, otherwise it wasn't too uncomfortable. I'd gladly wear one in order to play again.

It won't be fun. You can't smoke or drink or eat in a mask. If everything is exactly the way it was, but you are required to wear mask, I predict revenues down by 65% which will then cause the casino industry to massively consolidate.
05-10-2020 , 03:52 PM
Looks like you CAN drink with a mask.

Ron, u have given us a lot of news in the past by all the hard work u used to do about florida years ago. can u and everyone else please stop mentioning the reopening plans and dates for certain strip casinos which have been rehashed over and over in the news and give us some news on plans for reno or laughlin or wendover? im getting total silence everywhere else outside the strip as to what dates they might want to reopen. im not even getting news from downtown vegas such as the D and el c
