yeh ive seen it a few times, its good, I like the bit where the BJ guy is losing and louis asks him "what about our technique???"

the bj with those two dudes is def the best part. another good louis line right before the technique one is when the dude says he lost 24k and louis asks "but were you having a great time" the dude just laughs.

but prob my favorite part is when louie and the one bj dude cash out and the other guy is in the distance...his friend goes to louie take a look at him, thats the perfect example of what you dont want to be..and the camera zooms in on him. so ****ing epic

edit: oh actually minute 25 when the bj guy throws the yellow cut card at the table. thats def my fav part

I got this from the local library.I know its random...but so are the movies they have.they usually have tons of random movies you'd never think about.that's also where I got owning mahowney actually.croupier is from late 90s and stars clive owen.plus of course the library is free and movies are a week.just a random thought.of course- I'm.a dork and love the library.anywho-

Both fantastic movies.

One of my favorite movies of all time, but the reason it didn't do big box office was that it was rated NC-17, i.e. one step above R and one step below X. (For you non-Americans: nothing above R gets into a "family" cinema, and nothing below X gets into the pornographic ones; only arthouse joints picked this film up.) And that rating was entirely because of the one scene where you can see Harvey Keitel's wiener. But somehow the director had full creative control and wouldn't budge on cutting the scene for the theatrical release.

Violence, drugs, sacrilege, general moral depravity? Rated R. T & A? Rated R, or maybe PG-13 if it's light. Penetration, etc.? Rated X. Just show a man's dong? At least back in 1992, you'd be in the no man's land of NC-17.

Anyway, I couldn't sleep and am watching Croupier on Netflix. Thanks to whomever for bumping the thread!

Owning Mahoney was good. Deadly Gamble makes me never want to bet again lol.

Watched this flick a little awhile ago called Even Money. Not great, but if you ever wanted to see a degen Kim Basinger or Forest Whitaker, give it a go. Oh yeah and Danny DeVito as an old school washed up Vegas magician.

Not sure if already listed here, but there is a very good documentary on the life and career of NFL handicapper, tv personality,and professional degenerate gambler Jimmy "the Greek"Snyder on Espn 30 for 30.

I watched The Hustler for the 1st time recently, very enjoyable.

It starts off very cool, glamorising the game (Pool) but by 1/3 in it becomes very, very dark.

A really enjoyable but ultimately depressing movie. Not sure if the very best example of addiction, but a good one.

Resuscitating a 2+ yr old thread to say a Lifetime flick called "Going for Broke" with Delta Burke is a good if predictable watch. It's up on youtube. Stumbled into it from watching a gambling addiction doc.

Gambler-2012 on Netflix the show is in Chinese (sub titles 26 min ep), but its incredible it really gets the degen panties wet, I never knew how big bacarrat tables in maccau were, each character is a slimy pos the last episode is especially dark.

The gambler(similar title i know) is also good the show is subbed(polish i think) its about a EMT that sets survival lines on patients in critical condition, he also has a pony addiction.

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie is a great recommendation for a gambling lifestyle movie.

(Written and directed by John Cassavetes in the mid 1970s, stars Ben Gazarra, i.e. it's a real move with real writing, film noir story, direction and acting. (Not Cassavetes' best, but it is worth the watch. Better movie than the recent remake of The Gambler.)

Each to his own, I guess. Personally, I thought Hard Eight was unwatchable.

This one is pretty good for a "woman in trouble" movie of the week. If you're looking for true over the top dark fun and cheesiness though, you can't beat "Lucky Girl" (also known as "My Daughter's Secret Life") which starred Elisha Cuthbert. It's so, so Canadian, and I say that in a good way for lulz enjoyment factor.

it featured the "best 2/4 player in Vegas" lol

yeah it did have nothing in common with the Dosteoveski book but it's a great read as is the Al Alvarez one on the 1981 WSOP
