One of my favorite movies of all time, but the reason it didn't do big box office was that it was rated NC-17, i.e. one step above R and one step below X. (For you non-Americans: nothing above R gets into a "family" cinema, and nothing below X gets into the pornographic ones; only arthouse joints picked this film up.) And that rating was
entirely because of the one scene where you can see Harvey Keitel's wiener. But somehow the director had full creative control and wouldn't budge on cutting the scene for the theatrical release.
Violence, drugs, sacrilege, general moral depravity? Rated R. T & A? Rated R, or
maybe PG-13 if it's light. Penetration, etc.? Rated X. Just show a man's dong? At least back in 1992, you'd be in the no man's land of NC-17.
Anyway, I couldn't sleep and am watching
Croupier on Netflix. Thanks to whomever for bumping the thread!
