Not completely.
"Gimme the three"
...is the greatest line in any gambling movie IMO.

Billie: You're crazy.
Axel Freed: Blessed.
Axel Freed: Double it.
Las Vegas Dealer: You want to double on eighteen sir?
Axel Freed: Yes.
[pauses]
Axel Freed: Gimme the three.
(it was a hard 18 against a ten...)
The Gambler was about as subtle as a jackhammer, but had some great scenes.

Hips: Listen, I'm gonna tell you something I never told a customer before. Personally, I never made a bet in my life. You know why? Because I've observed firsthand what with seeing the different kinds of people that are addicted to gambling - what we would call degenerates. I've noticed there's one thing that makes all of them the same. You know what that is?
Axel Freed: Yes. They're all looking to lose.
Hips: You mean you know that!

The thing that really kills me is that it is supposedly based on the short story of the same name by Dostoyevsky, but has nothing in common with that story besides the name. Completely different.
(now if you want the greatest gambling novella about descent into degeneracy, I highly recommend the Dostoyevsky story although it isn't the easiest of reads...)
