This is a pretty terrible analogy. Chess is a game with limited moves and no psychological dynamic to speak of so the bot is programmed to make the best move every time so in your example thats cheating and the bot cant lose. Ghosting in mtt's is a gray area and considered unethical but its not like superusing or botting, it doesnt guarantee a win. If I played 90% of the tourney and hand it over to someone at the end, theres a chance theyll not be making optimal decisions due to not being in touch with the dynamics established over the course of the tourney. Plus its a luck oriented card game were talking about, some hands play themselves regardless of whos playing it and you dont control the outcome, those are not the case in chess.

I like the idea. It adds some flavor and seems to be a good way to acknowledge the massive impact that online poker has had on the poker world over the last 10-15 years.

Seems like a good way to promote online poker

I'd like to know why they can't just play the last few hands of the tournament on screens and present a bracelet to the winner.

The whole point of this tournament is to play it online. I'm not one who thinks online and live poker are vastly different, but it seems disrespectful to online poker.

They don't make the final 2 players in stud events play hold em. I think a mixed online/live event would be great(where you cut to 27 like chainsaw said), but when you have a single "ONLINE" event then just play it online.

Yep, this argument is pretty silly.

I'm pretty sure cheaters would prefer to cheat where there aren't heavy criminal penalties and I don't think a piece of jewelry is going to change that.

If the WSOP had been held online for 50 years you could make the same argument for the first live event. Card marking, people standing behind you, angle shooting, etc.

How ironic it will be when a former WSOP.com programmer wins the event! The only thing missing will be a screen name "SuperUser".

Can we assume from this that Chainsaw doesn't play online tournaments then?

It's just an online poker tournament that plays out live and awards a shiny bracelet for first. If you don't like it don't play. I've been colluded against more often live than online in my life.
wondering how many times ppl have ghosted vs you deep in online mtts if you really think that youve been colluded more live

site is prob gonna crash from traffic/hackers and have to do chip payout with like 200 left and be huge disaster!

cant wait to play tho

Allen. You're naive to think there'd be more angling/cheating/stalling/etc in an online tournament than a live WSOP event. I mean come on. Even if there was, this is still a good idea because it has to start sometime and the online platform is essential to grow the WSOP in the future. Single table Satellites should for example start being done online. Think of how many more lammers will be in circulation

Bringing the final table back live would address most of the issues raised, and seems to be the best solution. Allowing it to get down to heads up online isn't feasible.

Do you / have you played much online? Are you a winner online from your play to date? You seem to have a pretty misguided understanding and it smacks of self-interest rather than what is best for the game.

Obviously the event is there to promote WSOP.com. I think it is fine, but I agree that they should play the whole FT live. There is a lot of hype and excitement when you or someone you know makes a WSOP FT, might as well give it a day to build and then a day in the thunderdome.

Think they should have ran this earlier on in the series. Really would have driven traffic to the site.

At some point it'd be nice to see them run a second chance series online where they have a schedule online that mimics their live schedule but with 1/10th the buyins. Potentially with some sort of online player of the series leaderboard.

I feel if chainsaw played a lot online we'd have a "Why aren't there online poker tournaments with WSOP bracelets?" threads popping up years ago.

I like the idea, I think given the way poker is going, this is just a matter of time!

Also would be cool to see it finish with a live FT.
