Ah yes, the days when Milwaukee's Best Light logo was all over the WSOP. It wasn't all bad, though:

The point most people are missing, is that poker freebies and fashion have not gotten any less ludicrous... they are just not as much a part of pop culture.

Third rate designers = third rate design. Which has its charm.

Not trying to derail but what about the WSOP bracelets themselves. I mean, they are still important but around this time ESPN made it seem like a bracelet was EVERYTHING. PH had his 11 girls walking in with him etc, etc. They even eliminated the re-buy event so pros couldnt "buy" a bracelet.

These days people are more interested in the money than the "prestige" of a bracelet. IMO

I have a pokerroom.com t-shirt from when they were in play money beta.

I just emailed support and said "I bet I am your first Irish player. Plz send me a shirt."

And they did. And it sucked.

+1 if you invested heavily in these back in 2010

Haha I remember playing play money on pokerroom in 2001 - that's a good story even if the T shirt sucked!

Mike Caro was a sponsored player on doylesroom.com when it was on the old Tribeca tables network (RIP) and a similar thing happened to me when I got it all in against him for a $900 pot on 2/4 NL and sucked out hard with my 5% chance. I typed something in chat like "now all I need is a free book as well" and without any warning a few weeks later a signed copy of his book of tells arrived on my doorstep - legend!

Haha no you're doing it wrong. You want people to get rid of them so that the copies you almost certainly kept for yourself go up in value.

Also, I didn't realize your hair was that dark.

I clicked the link to see the KMart bobbleheads for sale a few days ago. Now my facebook feed just had a sponsored KMart post for a David Williams bobblehead saying, "Still on your mind? Don't let this one go! "

One of these days I will use the pink Party Bingo hats that they sent me in I think 2006. Unfortunately, the old ladies with their dabbers kind of scare me. They are the original multi tablers...

I have this shirt and the "Nice Ace" one as well from AP and some other crappy UB wear from working there back in the day...

For those that qualified for WSOP Main Event on Stars in 2006, like myself, it was actually a great year for "collectables". They gave you heavyweight jerseys (Hockey, Rugby, Baseball, Basketball) and endless T-shirts and polos if you just asked for them. I miss those days when you qualified online and Stars would even take care of buying you into the Main Event so you never had to take possession of the $10K. Plus you got 8 nights at the Palms (or Mirage, Treasure Island, etc. before they moved to The Palms). Hope those days return soon!

Great write up! I remember those giant roller swag bags quite fondly! Mine eventually succumbed to the rigors of air travel and had to be thrown out. But those jerseys were indeed top notch and are still sitting on a shelf in my closet, rarely worn actually, but are heavyweight enough that they are good on a crisp San Diego winter day lol.

2006 was definitely the peak for swag, and everything else in online poker. Remember the "poker lifestyle" conventions in the Pavillion Room? All these wannabe startup online poker sites were just showering people with free crap (t-shirts, hats, pens, etc.). Fun times!

Haha or the BODOG stand, where you could have a pillow fight on a bed with two bodog girls upstairs or get free shots in a mini nightclub downstairs.....

2006 was definitely the peak of the boom, that WSOP was great fun. Riding high before we were all hit with UIGEA a couple of months later.

I like the TJ bobblehead but what I'd really like is the wind-up version that slow-rolls Hellmuth.
