Yeah it's just the world we live in.
Bad actors exist in governments, businesses, charities, poker games, etc... but because horse racing involves animals... it gets extra scrutiny from activist groups.
And I completely agree with some of the critics.
The FBI indictment against Navarro and Servis said that track veterinarians at NYRA were helping them dope up their horses. The very people we employ to protect the animals were putting them at risk.
It's sick and hopefully we get national legislation for horse racing that helps further clean up the sport.
But to completely ban the sport like some folks are asking?
There is already underground/unregulated horse racing happening in America... and it's cruel, disgusting and inhumane.
With most prohibitions, the activity just goes underground and I'd argue that this is exponentially worse for equine athletes than legal and regulated horse racing (that we should continue to heavily scrutinize and reform).
