Yeah, not nearly as respectable as the stock market which is publicly accepted. Everyone always wins in the stock market, right?

Don't like all the casual racism/sexism/homophobia whether it's genuine or ironic or whatever. Don't like the 'baller' attitude. Don't like overprivileged American geeks. Don't like British live donks. Don't like the fact that I have to immerse myself in this world because I'm too lazy to do anything else.

I agree with Op to an extent. But that is only a part of the culture. The culture also has Mike Sexton, Andy Block, Bill Chen, Jim McManus, Chris Fegruson, Barry Greenstien, and others like them who bring alot more to the table then lets take adderal and douche out in Ed Hardy clothes. The advertising is partially to blame... sell your gold, viagra, liqour etc.

I have always thought that rather than worrying about whether this or that is good for poker, we simply need to get more people to actually play the game. Anyone who plays for more then ten minutes can get a sense for the skill and complexity involved and why it attracts smart people.

I agree with op but thats only the side of poker you see on tv, theres a deeper more intellectually rewarding side to the game and to the culture, which anyone who plays seriously can appreciate.

Seriously. Stop taking these things so personally. You fairies are supposed to be a jovial and free-spirited people (not to mention decadent). Indulge in humor from time to time. It's OK to laugh at things that are genuinely funny, (such as midgets, racial differences and the misfortune of others) but this hyper-PC uptightness isn't "progressive" in any way and when some people (like me) are exposed to lamentations on Political Correctness, it triggers an overwhelming, almost visceral urge to immediately agitate against.
Classic.

More or less agree with OP. I don't aspire to live in a rap video and I think most of the lifestyle associated with poker is just horrible, at both ends of the food chain. Poker pays my bills, everything I really value in life is elsewhere.

BTW to answer your question OP, they should stop producing televised poker like it's a game show. Obv not avoid mentioning cash prizes all together, it's strategically relevant if nothing else, but stuff like a couple of swimsuit models laying out 1st prize money in cash on final tables is just ridiculous and gross, as is announcing 'they are playing for ONE MILLION DOLLARS' every other hand. I'd like to see sedate strategy based commentary, like golf for example (which involves more money anyway).

What actually turns me off about poker is the clean direction it is going, becoming more acceptable to people like OP. I can't stand this army of nits invading poker rooms, trying to make side income. I do everything I can to make their poker experience a living hell, even if it is not "plus EV" in my vague estimation of what is "plus EV". All these clean cut square ass whitebread jabronees waiting to double through the maniac with their pocket aces make me sick. Double straddle. You make a 1/5 pot bet on the river? I'm all in. Overbetting pots, raising big from the blinds when they limp. These are all ways to clear your table of these parasites and help turn poker culture back around to what it should be.

So much wrong with this. First I don't see any reason why OP = life nit, I think he's just saying poker culture/marketing is mostly juvenile and shallow. Second, even if he is a life nit that has basically no bearing on how he plays, I'm thoroughly lagtastic and I was one of the ones agreeing with him. Third, making -EV against villains is not going to discourage them from playing you!

If anything I would think it's the online geeks/nerds that I would think turn ppl off from the game.

And to Burden it's sites like 2p2 that suggest ppl to play nitty at casino's. Other wise most would still be still at the poker tables after losing some money in the pit and donate to the poker players.

Personally I don't care about either. I like having Nits and maniacs at my table when I play live.
