The desperation of playing-serious low stakes players tends to make them do short sighted underhanded things regardless of gender/newbness of opponents . I saw a gross example of a wannabe vs a clearly new/ bad female when she was asking him “if he had a jack” on a JJxxx board to receive an earnest promise they didn’t so she called off her stack to be shown quads. “I didn’t lie! I have 2 jacks!” *eyeroll* as she packs up and leaves probably never to be seen again
Poker is hostile, no doubt. Of coarse ther are great tables where all are welcome
Yeah desperation. Many tables have that suppressed atmosphere of desperation. People who want be / think they are better than they are and entitled to a win. People acting like the money doesn’t matter to them but it really does. And all this desparation causing people to flare up over nothing.
The first home game I ever played I almost had to fight my way out of this guys apt because I was up money abd wanted to cash out. It wasn’t a hit n run, I had been playing for perhaps 6hrs and the rule was you had to play at least 2. These guys wanted their money back and and they got drunk and high over the coarse of the gam, and when I finally decided to leave they decided I was breaking etiquette and I wasn’t allowed to cash yet. It came really close to being a f***d up situation. All over like 100 bucks. Poker brings the worst out of many people, losing money brings the worst out of people
And btw these were guys who I knew relatively well. And they were generally very kind people. I had seen them intoxicated before, it’s not like they were all angry drunks. But they transformed at the end of that night and the booze only made it worse
