Is there anyone that worked a part time job, around your poker hours that allowed you to supplement your income and variance?

I'm in a position currently where I'm considering quitting my full time job (I am not looking for advice on this) and playing poker for an income. I'd like to buffer any initial earnings with a job that ideally let's you work as and when you want. I'd need something that would let me work something like 2 till 6pm each day, before going to play poker (live)

I can only think of delivery driver jobs that offer that kind of flexibility currently. Is there anything else you could do? My skillset and line of work don't allow this flexibility so it would probably need to be something that doesn't require qualifications or at least some experience in the given area.

Any thoughts welcome

Just play evenings/weekend until you have built up big enough bankroll $10k+ to quit and give it a good go . If you haven't managed to do that you probably wont make it anyway.

You can be a server/waiter in a restaurant. They are usually very flexible when it comes to scheduling.

You place pop machines/snack machines in locations (or coin-operated pool tables and the like) and once a week you restock the machines and take out the money. You split the proceeds with the location owner.

Start your own "uber". Check local laws and regulations.

Start your own grocery delivery company. You can set the times and days you will do shopping and delivery.

Curious, where are you that you can foresee playing poker for a living yet it does not happen to have Uber ?

(I am curious because I travel a lot, some internationally and some domestically in the US. Uber seems pretty ubiquitous. I'd expect to find it present in places that have live poker on a scale that would allow one to make a living at it. )

Lots of European countries/cities. Some countries have banned Uber in general, in others they serve only a couple cities. For example, last I checked they didn’t operate anywhere in Austria except for Vienna and in only 4 cities in Germany.

didn't have to given I was living at my parent's house back then, I was 21, moved out a year later with a very comfortable bankroll so I wouldn't have any stress with paying the bills regardless of variance

If you live in a good city, could be a part time tour guide. Good way to meet people, get to know ur city better, and not really have to "work".

I am from a city in the UK. The games here run nightly and my graphs / sample size are good evidence I can make it work. Rake is max 5% up to £5 (in £1/£2 games) and a session charge in the £5/5 games I play in.

No uber in the city though, not sure why haha.

Thanks for all the suggestions, good food for thought!

call centers often have very flexible scheduling, so if you are running bad you can put in for some over time and get that bankroll back

Any 9-5 job that does not cause physical or mental stress is fine. Work during the day, when poker games tend to be bad, and you are free on nights/weekends when games are better.

There's always some places looking for part time/flexi hours staff, keep an eye out with local recruiters. Ping them your CV explain what hours you're looking to work and something could pop up.

PT work could be an option as you can have clients at all times of day if you are that way inclined.

Which city do you play in out of interest? Can't think of many places in the UK I have not used Uber.

Just quit already and make the jump. That’s plenty of buffer.

And stay out of the pit. GL

No, I am not trolling. And I honestly think a majority of poker players are in the same or related field as well.
