Actually developed European countries (Finland, Germany, Denmark, France etc.) have much more advanced communication technology then US. It is said that they are 3-4 years ahead.
I traveled to Germany and Netherlands last year and broadband internet was in every hotel.
Also, when dial up was still dominating US market in late 90s and early 2000s, Europe long ago switched to DSL and ISDN. Dial up there was unheard of at that time.
