Uh, was GBG really that good? It's one of the few in recent years I've given up on during the first 15 minutes. Hmm 7.9/10 on imdb, maybe I should give it another shot...

He proactively went to rehab before any public embarrasment, then tore up JLo's thick azz at it's physical peak on his sobriety high until he tired of the drama and married a low-maintenance hottie who seems to be a much better personality match. They have two small kids and live quietly way out of the spotlight. Tabloids seem to treat them almost as afterthoughts now.

Other than Pitt, DiCaprio, maybe a couple others, Affleck milked about as much money & sex out of Hollywood as one can, then got out just in time. He was always able to laugh at himself and the caricature he became, and Hollywoodland & GBG gave him his credibility back, prolly much higher than before.

And whatta ya know, he even had a pretty good score at teh pokerz.

One of his next projects, The Town, is based on the book Prince Of Thieves and will star Jon Hamm from Mad Men. If it's as good as GBG he will join the directors A-list. Affleck > life.
Man you sure make a good case on envying the guy.

He was the bomb in Phantoms.

I remember the big debate whether he played under the name "triangle" on FTP

I'm surprised noone is asking whether him not being involved in poker is good of bad for the industry lol.

He rocked as O'Bannion.

the same reason why Ryan Leaf retired from Football...

Where was his cameo in Rounders?

He was cool in Boiler Room.
Poker was a temporary sideline.
Unless he won the Main Event, poker was small bucks.
Poker is NOT the great money spinner so many people on 2+2 think it is. Only a tiny tiny few make the money that would get a Hollywood star to think it even slightly worth while taking it up on a full time basis.
If it was purely down to money, he would take an income drop if he swapped lives with Greenstein.

LOL

Gone Baby Gone -- very good movie, C. Affleck GREAT, and very good direction. If you like Mystic River or Gran Torino, you'll probably like this movie.

Hollywoodland -- underrated IMO. Affleck got well deserved critical praise for his role IMO.

Extract -- new Mike Judge film thats been getting good advanced reviews.

Affleck -- how can you not have a mancrush on the guy even though he is, I agree, a very average actor. I still watch most of the **** he does and have Chasing Amy, Dogma, GWH, that ****storm Armageddon, Paycheck, and Daredevil on routine rotation. He still got paid 2.8mil for his role in Hollywoodland when his name wasn't worth anything.

Errrr.... I'd take C movie actor over poker superstar, and then play the live donkaments with my pocket change.

he's an awful actor imo.
Wut? He's hilarious.

As far as dramatic acting goes, he's not even close to awful. Not great, but I like him.
Also Annie Duke was giving him lessons so he probably lost his BR on UB.

How could anyone believe that there's more money in poker than in films.

Take the best five poker players in the world...and their winnings and then compare that to the income from just one film for a top drawer film star.

Does Phil Ivey earn $20 million a year...some people earn it for one film.

Think how much Alec Guinness made from Star Wars...and he never even played poker on Full Tilt nor Arnie when he was Terminator. Where was he on Poker Stars!!!

I always liked him, tho his brother is imo a better actor. He also played the role of the creep/jerk very in both Mall Rats and Dazed and Confused, he was very easy to hate. Also I think his role in boiler room was awsome.

Didn't know it till this thread, but i guess I'm a big Afleck fan, who knew.

Also I don't find Garner that hot at all but J-Lo and all the other randoms are good enough to confirm hes the man.

Garner has a butter face.

Put J-Lo's face on Garner's body and you have a winner.

I would choose being a "B" movie star over being a pro any day man. Affleck's made the equivalent to winning like 5 main events or more for god's sake.
08-09-2009 , 05:43 AM
As for his Boiler Room speech/character, see Alec Baldwin's speech/character in Glengarry Glen Ross.
08-09-2009 , 06:03 AM
His good roles in some comedies, and his role in boiler room were good because of a good script, director etc. I can think of a ton of better people for those roles. That's difficult to realize now because when something has already been made and garnered fame and is ingrained in everyone's brains its tough to imagine anyone other than the person who actually did it doing it.

He's just been savvy enough to maneuver his way into good roles and working with good people. Not a good actor imo. Obviously he's also done a slew of terrible movies, and has made a ****load more from these than the good ones.
