I hate to be a negative Nancy, but he is not going to care if like 200 people e mail him with their objections. If someone is neutral a few messages may persuade them but he is not going to change his mind based ob 2+2 community.

1. Doing nothing will embolden them.
2. Us contacting them while our opponents do not will show that the energy and enthusiasm are on the side of poker and not on prohibition.
3. Us contacting them will show that we're not going away. This helps on the flip side of the coin -- anti-gaming legislation. Many will see that we need to be addressed in legislation that bans other gaming (I'm not a proponent of that, but we should take the low and the high, so to speak).
4. We don't want other politicians to think opposing us is a good way to gain votes.

He is a very devout Mormon. Simply look at the LDS church's acts with regad to pretty much *any* progressive position on personal liberties. And that's before you get to the fact that he's running for the GOP nomination.

I don't get why so many here enjoy trying to get people to stop standing up for themselves, but we need to speak up and represent our position.

We need to show Romney that there is opposition to his position. There's clearly value there.

I think that sending letters to politicians is a good thing. It does help our cause. I just think that this specific instance is kind of pointless. He is not going to change his mind. It doesn't mean other politicians are not open to our views.

Ummmm..I think you are the one that needs to be serious. Mitt Romney is a POLITICIAN. You aren't going to be successful in politics by being unwilling to compromise. You also aren't going to be as successful as Mitt was in venture capital by simply being a good little mormon. You do realize he has taken anti-mormon stances on a wide range of issues including Abortion. Poker is not even gambling (certainly no moreso than day trading) and he could easily justify it.

When leading a business, one has to make very tough decisions...not because of moral reasons, but because they affect the bottom line. If there is great support for online poker and Mitt believed that it would help the US's bottom line, then there is no doubt in my mind that he would support it.

He doesn't have to change his mind. He simply has to know that this is an issue with a lot of active supporters. Also, it's not like I'm asking anyone to spend weeks on this. It's a simple prefilled tweet and a quick post to his Facebook wall.

Anyone who actually thinks a GOP politician in a presidential race is going to join them in silly word games about whether or not poker (oh, but NOT blackjack, or Sports or Pony Handicapping) is skill and therefore "not gambling" is in for a major surprise.

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but the question of online gaming has come up 0 times in all of the debates, and I wouldn't count on it coming up in any of the future debates.

In regards to him appealing to the social conservatives, that is absolutely correct until he secures the nomination. Once he secures the nomination he will shift to the left to appeal to moderates/independents. This is all just a game of perception anyways. Everyone knows that Mitt Romney's focus is primarily fiscal, not social and from that perspective online poker makes a lot of sense.

Either way though, if he becomes President, he won't be making the law, just signing it. If there is support for the bill, I see no reason why he wouldn't. It's not like it will come up in the 2016 election. It's simply not that big of an issue to the general public.

Im sorry but this is an issue that Romney will never look at or take seriously, he might put on a front and say he has people looking into it but he will never support it or acknowledge that some people are for it and see where they are coming from. He is mormon and that will never happen. And no im not just being prejudice about his religion. There is no practicing mormons out there who will acknowledge or accept gaming/gambling of any form as something that they would allow. If Romney becomes president he would become a major road block in regulating online poker. So if Romney is going to become president we all better pray that it gets regulated before he takes office.

Also, 2006 (pre-UIGEA), 2006 (post-UIGEA), and 2010 (pre-Black Friday). It's a dying breed wishing to cling to what remains of the U.S. facing poker market, but I guess there are still a few holdouts.

For today, let's start telling the Payroll Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance, and Medicare Physicians Payment Fix Conference Committee to look at online poker as a possible revenue source.

The committee needs to resolve this by the end of February, so the timing is perfect for us. They need funding, which also works for us. And, if they don't act, we still benefit by the effort itself, as the members of the conference committee are leaders in the House and Senate!
