Weekend of October 15th, 2011

Let's continue our outreach to some less-than-supportive CA lawmakers this weekend, as they need to see that we really care and that we are motivated enough to make our voices heard. It takes just 30 seconds:
  1. Send a prefilled, editable pro-poker Twitter message to anti-poker Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) HERE and Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) HERE (Sen. Feinstein is not on Twitter).
  2. Wait at least an hour, then send these Twitter messages to Sen. Boxer HERE and Rep. McClintock HERE (if you can't wait an hour, it's better to send all of these at once than not at all).
  3. Wait at least one more hour, then send these Twitter messages to Sen. Boxer HERE and Rep. McClintock HERE.
  4. Let's continue to make and like pro-poker posts on anti-poker Sen. Feinstein's (D-CA) Facebook wall HERE, Sen. Boxer's wall HERE, and Rep. McClintock's wall HERE, with focus on the pro-poker posts HERE, HERE, and HERE. There are many new pro-poker comments since your last visit, so let's get 'em all liked!
  5. Send a prefilled tweet promoting the weekend action plan HERE.
Please reply in this thread with "posted", "done", etc. to encourage others to participate. The past 47 actions have generated triple-digit participation, so let's keep it growing. Thanks!

I tweeted this to Harry Reid since he seems to control all of the puppet strings.

@SenatorReid Please either introduce your own online #poker legislation for us to get behind, or support H.R.2366 or H.R.1174!

I feel the need to push.

done with both.

Why do we only get a few "done's?" I think we should change the thread title to convey how fast and easy this is, they probably think this requires writing letters and don't even bother opening the thread. Maybe something like:

"Poker Rights: Send prefilled tweets to anti-poker CA lawmakers"

If we're changing the title, we should also change the prefix "Fight for Poker Rights." My guess many players are just trained to not read past that for the reasons mentioned above.

In addition to the dones, there are some like me who also sends out e-mails, make calls, visits the local campaign HQ. There are also a very important few like Last Life and TE who do far more than that and encourages all of us.
With that said, I think your title suggestion is brilliant!

Appreciate all the hard work from the people who run this thread, but I truly think we can do much better than just triple digit participation.

This is the biggest poker forum in the world and the millions of American (ex)poker players can't get more participation to encourage our congressman to change the way America works?

I used to work in Washington DC and had many many friends who worked on the hill. I was curious if these politicians actually read and consider the spam that they get and basically all my friends assured me that they at least listen to what we have to say.

We gotta somehow get people to gogogogo on this stuff!!

That's up to the poker community. You can help with participation by joining in encouraging others to participate as well.

How so? The state is actively debating doing this at the state level.

This is a great target for us IMO.

Cliffs:

  1. Submit pro-poker CNN presidential debate questions now via Twitter HERE and HERE. If you can, it's best to edit these a bit to give them some individuality.
  2. Either go HERE to schedule tweets for around 8 pm ET on 10/18 or tweet them again yourself around 8 pm ET on 10/18.
  3. Like the pro-poker Facebook debate questions HERE and HERE, then like and post pro-poker questions/comments there and on the main wall HERE. Start with something like, "To all the candidates: What is your position on the licensing, regulation and taxation of online poker?" To find all the poker questions, hit CTRL-F and search for "poker". Use "highlight all" to spot the poker posts.
  4. Submit pro-poker questions directly to CNN HERE. Again, try something like, "To all the candidates: What is your position on the licensing, regulation and taxation of online poker?"
  5. Send a prefilled tweet promoting the action plan HERE.
Details:

CNN is airing the Oct. 18th presidential debate air live from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET from the Venetian in Las Vegas. CNN is seeking questions for candidates via the CNN Politics fan page on Facebook, Twitter (using the #CNNDebate hashtag), and their website. So, let's submit some pro-poker questions. As this debate is in Las Vegas, we will be topical.

The site states that the questions and comments are "submitted in real-time," so let's submit them now and then resubmit them right as the debate starts. We can either use www.twuffer.com to schedule tweets in advance or we can submit them ourselves as the debate starts.

Please reply in this thread with "posted", "done", etc. to encourage others to participate. The past 48 actions have generated triple-digit participation, so let's keep it growing. Thanks!
