As silly as you may all think the horseback riding story may seem (and it is pretty silly), Ben could have easily said "Haha yeah okay that happened, I'm a bit insecure and I shouldn't have acted like that, **** happens" and that would have been the end of it.
To clarify:
It is still likely a fabricated story. BUT, if it is not, it would show a lot if someone would lie about something so trivial
