It was very surface level. Not much substance.

Wish he told more personal/degen stories with these characters, like he did on the Ivey episode. The real story behind JRB would be interesting. How does a guy like that milk millionaires for that much before they wise up.

it cited multiple reasons for why he lost it all, from playing OFC, to not studying, to BR management skills. failing to mention a bunch of pros teaming up to violate site TOS to beat you out of several mil seems an oversight.

The team vs isildur result can be oversight but not mentioning it makes it seem like he was painting it his way. Public speaking involves considering optics, so I think it's fair for people to be expecting him to at least mention that Isildur's big demise was Hastings et al forming a little think tank to take him down.

This felt more like an interesting interview about a famous player than a documentary anyway, so it wasn't wholly necessary I guess.

The only interesting part about the video is the story about trying to get isildur to make training videos.

Only two purposes to the video: get guaranteed clicks by mentioning isildur1 (is Galfond still doing a youtube prop bet?) and to get reputation by saying how he's friends with someone actually cool

It was so obvious to me I didn't even realize - but yeah, this 100% should have been in. Still best Galfond's video yet!

You think Phil Galfond put this video out there in the hope that you would think he's cool because he is friends with Viktor Blom?

You really think that?

Galfond said he would take on anyone / everyone in the big games. But wasn't he notorious for his game selection and only playing when Guy or Gus was at the table?

Galfond basically camped at Hansen's HU table and lived by the computer waiting for Gus to pop up.

Maybe at low to mid NLHE. I dont know, i dont play NLHE.

But raw talent is for sure still very important in other forms of poker.

Most of the video was about other games of poker. Mostly PLO which is Galfond's game.

I have played as a pro since before the FTP nosebleeds days.

I would estimate that for me personally its > 50% raw talent.

I would say the same for many of the nosebleed PLO crushers today.

I seem to remember it also like this. He only sat HS when there was a huge VIP playing( shout-out to malACEsia, who remembers, remembers )

Being a good player confident enough to take anyone, and enjoying making loads of money vs weaker players. Doesn’t seem a contradiction to me. In fact, money>>>>>>>>ego

Yeah I remember listening to pods with him - at smaller stakes he'd play anyone, but at nosebleeds he was picking his spots, as moving down was very difficult because there was nosebleeds, then 10/20 kinda level and big money jump but a pretty small skill jump between the, accounted for recs

Galfond offered to play anyone in his challenge and he won everyone even though he wasnt playing regularly. I dont understand the hatred

I dont know what happened 14 years ago but he is willing to put his money where his mouth is in recent years

Surprised to see Galfond get a bunch of hate. He’s genuinely a nice person and loves poker and anyone that really loves poker also loves isildur. There is no clickbait intention behind this video. It’s just Galfond is talking about the game he is passionate about.

Where's the "hate"?

He stated in the video he would take on anyone / everyone in the big games.

The reality is that he only played the big games when Guy was at the table - in which case he was doing equity deals on the side with his 2 other friends sitting at the same table. Probably also had pieces of each other when they couldn't get a seat in the game.

Otherwise, he was camping at Hansen's table to play HU PLO.

Galfond was very selective in the games he played and not battling it out with anyone / everyone. Fair play though, he was in the right place at the right time and left the game set up for life financially.

Nothing against the guy, he seems like a decent person. Albeit lacking in common sense to figure out that his marketing strategy for his poker site was never going to work.

Didnt galfond offered to take up anyone a couple of years ago even though he was barely playing? I cant imagine someone who is barely playing taking up everyone but when he was playing every day was afraid to take action. Either you like to battle or not, doubt you can ever change this

He played isildur1 when isi was obliterating everyone. Your statement doesnt hold much truth

Everyone was lining up to play him. In their eyes he was a "fish on a heater" and they knew at some point his luck would run out. Blom also played very lengthy sessions and there was a huge edge in showing up 12+ hours into his session.

I see, i understand your point of view. Well we will never know what was actually happening unless we find Galfond's matchups at that time

i railed (n played alot lower stakes at the time) and this isnt the case

even as u said currently and a few yrs ago Galfond has publicly announced he will play whoever whenever.

I dont remember Glafond ever trying to dodge games,,,,,maybe someone elese can show proof. Either ways he was there to make $$$ no ego.....
