Some interesting discussion on twitter right now about the hole card format, seemed threadworthy

I don't understand why they cant show the hole cards during the hand. It's much more interesting to see all of the players cards before the river.

I enjoy it personally as a non-casual fan... but remember the first time I ever saw poker on TV when i was new to the game... it had no hole cards and I changed channel, surprised that anyone would want to watch something so boring

^This idea is pretty interesting

Does anybody have a link to a non poker forum that is following this? Would be interesting to see how they see it.

I found it really interesting. Much rather watch what I saw then the shove and pray type stuff from previous years.

Why would a non-poker forum even be following this?

my roommates who dont like poker are pissed i am watching this on the tv cuz they cant follow the line of thinking without the whole cards...

hole cards are needed for this to be mainstream...

gotta go live and somehow sequester players and audience...

I'm not a recreational viewer and I found it incredibly boring as hell and had to change the channel 40 minutes in.

all i can find is 2 comments on an ESPN blog article

i'm hoping the concern about fish being bored is a bit of an over-reaction, and the new WSOP format proves to be a positive development, once casual fans get used to it

that first comment in the above post is right imo, the casual fan loves to be able to scream "fold" at the TV or vice versa. they need to be able to put the hole cards up whilst the hand is being played out

even if that means going to a 1 hour delay but showing hole cards "live" i think that is a much better option than a 15 min delay with hole cards at the end of the hand

I love this format but then again I am not a casual poker fan.

I was bored out of my mind and could only stand to watch a few mins. Bring back the card cam and I still probably wouldn't watch anyway.

Lot of Penn State and general college football boards were pissy that all the JoePa news was moved to the deuce.

If you're not a "recreational viewer", what are you? A professional viewer?

It would be an easy fix to delay the television feed by 5-10 minutes. If they aren't showing the hole cards it makes it unwatachable to all casuals, and even a lot of poker players will find it boring.

Until they get the hole cards back, ratings are going to blow.

My wife was watching with me, not quite as interested. But after a couple of hours, she asked "when is this over?". When I explained that it's live and could go on for hours, she quit watching. She said "who would spend so much time watching and not even know when it's over?".

I think the open-endedness of a live game will kill the recreational audience.
