10 max is awful simply too many people seeing hands; makes the average handstrength go up making games nittier and bad

They are afraid of the skill jump differential. The more people at the table the more ranges you must assign. Most brains can't process ranges from nine different individual variables.

fish like to play 10 handed because they want a lot of people in the pot, making it worth their time. (unlike winning blinds which is for loser faces) then when its their turn they do this thing where they make sure that everyone sees them counting all the people that are already in the hand before they limp in with their 59 or whatever.

Because live poker is boring enough as it is.

I prefer 9-handed games to 10-handed because I'm a big guy with long arms. I have enough trouble fitting into airplane seats and cars, and I'd prefer that discomfort not extend to the poker table. I'd rather not be ******* to elbow with the degenerates who populate my poker games.

most poker players would like to pretend they are playing poker when they are actually playing slots

the more people at the table, the less you are playing poker and the more you are pulling a slot lever

Also this. Not that going from 9 to 10 people makes that much of a difference, but the more players at the table the drier and more mechanical the game becomes.

This speaks against the main theme of live poker strategy. The idea in online cash games is to attack blinds and play for all the small pots and avoid getting stacked. In live games you simply can't get enough volume in to make attacking blinds and playing small pots worth it so you have to play for the big hands, play to stack the other players

"FLOOOOOOOR were down to 8 were gonna need you to fill this seat asap."

"Pff this floor man is such an idiot, we only got 8 players, the world is going to end if we dont get this seat filled right now. look at the table over there they got 9 players."

- things commonly heard in live games

Also I play a decent amount at the Venetian and every time I sit at one of their 10 handed games someone always says something negative about it being 10 instead of 9 handed
I can't speak regarding your homegame, but if you play a lot in casinos, you should realize that there are always people there (at least at low and mid-stakes; I've never played higher) who want something, anything, to complain about. There are just a lot of miserable people in the poker room. If the game is 10-handed, they think it should be 9-handed. If the game is 9-handed, god help you if somebody's walking. If the game is loose, they're always getting sucked out on. If the game is tight, they can't get paid off on anything. They're not really complaining about playing 10-handed, they're just complaining because the Venetian is doing something different, and that makes for a target.
Does it actually make a difference? As others have pointed out, there's a finite amount of room around the poker table, so 9-handed is always better from that standpoint. Otherwise, I don't think it matters much.

the time I've seen people complain about 9-handed is when its the one guy who is on the waiting list for a table...other then that from what I have seen most people prefer 9-handed especially when they are gonna grind for a long time

this pretty much sums things up, + the fact that people hate folding hands

Hahaha... How would you play AKo or JJ UTG+6 at a 22 handed table?

at the live game I play at I'd prefer to be 10 handed rather than 9. the reason is simply because there are so many epic fish in my geographical location that one more occupied seat equates to an increased chance of having one at my table

If you can't assign ranges to 10 people at 30 hands an hour you should probably be playing BJ. And there was a discussion on playing 22-handed in Poker Theory if anyone was serious about that.

That's because your games are full of nits who would rather watch another game while on the waiting list then play poker.

From a players perspective I prefer 10 handed over 9 as in a live game it takes longer for the game to break and the game lags less if multiple people stand up. Thoughts?
I don't like folding. Do you like folding? If you don't like folding like me, then you don't like UTG. Therefore, let's get rid of it.

Bullsht
6 max more mechanical, 10 max more "drawy" game (and this is what is fun not betting all streets with a second pair against lone BB every time)

number of real decisions goes down as amount of people goes up. frankly I think the first 3 positions are a total waste of time when everyone at the table is competent (play from those 3 positions especially is quite one-dimensional)

also, I dont understand how anyone can sit around for hours and have to fold overpairs, or basically just have to wait for monster hands in general (or the occasional times when bluffing is feasible)
