Which Poker legend was Archie Karas's opponent in 9 ball? Which Poker legend was Archie Karas's opponent in 9 ball?

During Karas's legendary multimillion dollar run, he supposedly took a poker legend for close to seven figures playing 9 ball. Rumor has it that it was Bobby Baldwin.

Wondering if any of the Vegas veterans around here can provide any insight?

Sounds like a cool story.

i'm pretty sure it was Tomer Benvenisti.

a sad story indeed.

"He was, like, $30,000,000 winner at the Horseshoe Casino. He got his start by playing Bobby Baldwin the manager of the Mirage Casino, pool on his nerve, ended up winning about a million, and then beat him for more playing poker."

So it was indeed Bobby Baldwin.

But let's not stop there. If any of you happened to sweat the action, type away, it'd be a fascinating story.

I'm not sure what the etiquite is on bumping a 9 year old thread, but I did so, becuase I just read the 10 part series written by Tom Sexton back in 2008. Link to Poker News 10 Part Series

During the interview with Archie and as written in Part 2, he says "I won't tell you the name of the person I played pool with, out of respect for him and his position. Let's just refer to him as Mr. X."

My first thought was Bobby Baldwin. He's really the only poker player that I could think of, who is in a position that Archie would respect enough to keep secret. He probably figured that if he outed him that he wouldn't be able to play in MGM properties. Just speculation on my part, which is why I searched for threads about this and found this one. Doesn't matter anyway, because Archie is banned from all NV casinos now.

The 10 part series was an interesting read.
