Beat: I was better off Pre-BF, since I already had a balanced life.
I kinda find it hard to have sympathy for people who keep 100% of their net worth online.

I decided to get a job for the first time in 2 years after black friday and im not from america. I wasnt playing midstakes or anything, just grinding micros for a decent chunk of change but now i barely play at all, and i do miss the grind but not as much as i originally thought i would.

Did you really just use lettuce instead of let us? Rofl. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you're on a diet.

Yea? How do you figure? The lower STT buy-in vs.rake increase is garbage.. The player traffic is dead and the games are filled with regs.. ROI is going down.

Yea, sounds like fun..

I was a breakeven recreational online player who played way more than I should have. Since BF I've had a much better social life and find myself going out and hanging out with friends instead of 4 tabling rush poker on my couch with a sporting event on TV in the background. Since I was a breakeven player, online poker was a bad habit that I needed to kick but probably never would have if it wasn't for BF. I echo the person who said this was a blessing in disguise!

Consider the part about the swongs not bothering you so much. And then compare that to the bit where you didn't even use poker to support yourself. That just sticks out to me. Poker wasn't even really that big a deal for your life yet you were totally letting it make your life way more sucky.

In short: Playing online poker on the internet for recreation or full-time for income (or somewhere in-between) doesn't preclude someone from being cool with their family, getting a girlfriend, eating decently, and getting in shape.

Glad your life is better now and you are coming to some realizations. But the problem was most certainly you...and not poker (if you get what I mean there).
This is basically the problem I have with online poker, people doing that to themselves is ridiculously common.

I miss the thousands of dollars a year in supplemental income (very significant since I have three kids and we are below the poverty line) that came from grinding micros. But I don't miss being stuck in front of the computer for hours on end (since I played mostly MTTs and SnGs); the carpal tunnel issues that developed even with Table Ninja; and most of all, I don't miss the way multitabling poker colonised my brain.

I felt like a tweaker, all twitchy with the constant split second decisions, and tables flashing before my eyes like strobes. And even when I wasn't playing, just too much time and mental energy on poker books, poker strategy threads, or just mulling hands and tournament situations.

This is not to say that it was ethically correct, what the DOJ did. Online poker should be legal, I absolutely agree. But I do have to admit that in many ways, for me it was a blessing in disguise nevertheless.

Many pro players from Western countries are grinding $100 NL for a living these days.

If you can beat $100 NL today, you could have easily beat $2k NL before Black Friday. Players have got so much better and average stakes have got lower. It's become a race to the bottom.
