I'm lucky enough to have a job skill I could fall back on that pays well. I did poker as a vacation of sorts from work (1 year vacation) because I enjoyed being my own boss and the free time that cleared up. But now that I'm back working, it is nice not having to worry about bills and knowing I have 5k coming in twice a month feels pretty damn good.
Wtf do you do for a living? And if you have $120k guaranteed per year, why even bother trying to play poker professionally?

You played freaking $100 NL at the absolute highest. You never made any real money at poker, and for you it was a waste of time mostly- you should have quit, you sucked and poker made your life worse, of course it did.

I was making way more money than I needed or wanted playing 10 hours a week, traveling the world and living in a castle. Now I have to move. I would say for anyone that doesn't suck at poker the answer is "no"

Wow, $250 in a month, sick month bro!

Disagree. 4k on FTP. 27k profit past four months. Was considering playing fulltime if I worked up a 60k roll in about a year or as long as I was expecting to take. Also, pre bf I worked a minimum wage job (which I still do though Im pursuing actual opportunities now).

Now, after fretting over bf and my money and taking shots live I decided to pull back from poker for the time being. I'm registering to go back to school in the fall. I'm spending more time outdoors/socializing. I'm actively seeking a proper job. This is all **** I didn't want to do pre BF, but I still feel okay with doing it.

And I'll agree with A, I was somewhat unbalanced with poker and my life, but I was making money and enjoyed it so whatever. Now, I'm broke but I'm taking the necessary steps to secure a decent future. Now, have at me Internet for posting something optimistic and somewhat therapuetic on the intawebz.

Well, I was on a downswing at FTP so stopping that was good. My adaptation means playing later in the afternoon since there's not much traffic in the mornings. Took a while to get a deposit to wok on Merge-- call 'em if you have problems, they'll help-- but they're not bad. bodog has been decent also despite the 4 table max lunacy.
All told I'm playing less, results are better and stress is consequently lower.

^I came to post this.

I can appreciate any optimism/silver lining, and I respect that not everybody may have had an ideal balance of poker in their lives before it was taken from us, but I am compelled to chime in and say that my live has NOT improved. I always kept a balanced life with poker, and in retrospect, I see that I had indeed done a proper job in doing so.

Personally the improvements in my life:

- Sweet girlfriend
- Best body ever (gym everyday)
- Not skipping meals/eating like crap
- Sleeping better/better schedule
- Best semester GPA ever
- More time with friends/family (they seem to enjoy being around me more)
- Overall happier, not getting upset about swongs

Maybe it's just an isolated case for me since I was never someone who depended on poker to support my lifestyle, and I'm sure those of you that pursued it professionally are not happy about the changes, but anyone else have stories/etc of how their life has changed for the better? Since I finally turned 21 the trips to AC, Vegas, and Mohegan/Foxwoods also seem more like vacations or exciting trips rather than just a boring B&M poker grind.
I think I just discovered a new ghey???

BF hurt me to the core as I felt I was making significant progress in my game on a lot of levels. I've been playing a lot more live poker since and I've done very well. I was playing PLO MTTs, HU SNGs and super turbo SNGs and it's obvious you can't really replicate those things live, but I do enjoy the social aspects of live poker and generally make 1 or 2 good friends at the games I go to (I like to keep the fish happy).

Sounds like your obsessed with money and that dictates your path in life. Talk about unbalanced.

I think my life is much better since BF. I've been able to:
- hit the gym daily, which feels great
- focus on studying for the CPA and GMAT exams
- hang out with my family much more
- do a lot of other fun things

The major downside: need alternative source of income before job starts in a couple of months.

All-in-all, this is a blessing in disguise, and I really do love it.

-owe 2k to government
-owe 1k to parents for lending me money
-No job still considering poker was my primary source of income
-NO money in bank account considering everything to my name was online (10k)

Beat: I was better off Pre-BF, since I already had a balanced life.

Once I have my money back to play live, I think my life will improve. Getting out and enjoying the world instead of sitting in front of a screen all day is a quality of life improvement in my opinion. At least then I'll have a chance of meeting a girl...

Plus, in the meantime I've had a chance to devote my full attention to my charity...

I'll speak for everyone who made 100% of their income from online poker when I say BF was one of the worse things to ever happen to us.
