lol @ i duno how to balance life, lettuce b real most 2+2 population is skinny or fat nerds that are friends with other nerds and identify success in life at this stage with success in poker (making maney). Consequently, if they are making money everything's great, maybe they don't care about a gf, or need to get good grades, or have the desire to not be a fat pos.

For someone like me (regular college kid that wants to have a "regular job" after graduation) I used poker purely for extra money so I could be slightly baller on a college kid budget. I don't care about making online poker friends, etc, I use poker as a means to a better "real life."

You take away something that consumes a large portion of your time and effort then you devote more time to the other areas and the other areas improve. I admit, a lot of the improvements could have been completely coincidental, but it just proves that if your life sucks post BF you are the one who failed in balancing your life since you were not prepared for this potential outcome.

I totally wish we could have FTP/PS back now, especially since I think I would be more prepared to balance poker with my life now, but no point in crying over something you have no control over.

I have a good paying day job and was making $1500-$2k extra/mo from poker. It allowed me to take more vacations and buy toys I otherwise would not. I could play a couple hours a night or whenever I wanted. I can go to the casino, but really only on the weekends if I want to be productive at work and can achieve maybe 25 hands/hr with larger rake + tips as opposed to 800+ h/hr in my house. Life is most certainly not better.

I'm lucky enough to have a job skill I could fall back on that pays well. I did poker as a vacation of sorts from work (1 year vacation) because I enjoyed being my own boss and the free time that cleared up. But now that I'm back working, it is nice not having to worry about bills and knowing I have 5k coming in twice a month feels pretty damn good.

IM poorer now and I lost an awesome hobby, everything else remains the same.

I've gotten really good at Angry Birds & Bejeweled 2, but I quit taking handfuls of drugs that kept me up all night so I could play. I guess we can call that an improvement.

ive gotten good at

making bad threads

1) the first week was miserable but now the only time I miss internet poker is when I play live poker

2) taken up golf, so far 10x more frustrating that poker

3) sleep better, exercise more

4) off to WSOP Friday so who cares

been great OP, lost 1/3 of my income. Not too many part-time jobs like poker that allow you to be around family and make that kind of money after a 9-5 job. When you enter real-life post college and have to support yourself, and/or a family you might have a different perspective.
