I got a 2nd copyright when I rewrote the ending. I don't think the different ending would have been protected as much with just the one copyright.

In the UK you have the copyright to anything as soon as you write it, you cannot "copyright" something as there is no register or anything like that to do so. I guess it is different in the US, but if I go to the pub later and write down on the back of a beer mat the life story of a down on his luck script writer (let's call him Gerry) who, after over a decade of trying and failing to break into Hollywood with his great tales of somewhere in Nevada, finally gets an agent interested only for ChatGPT to become self-aware and enslave the human race into the boiling oat running business - the film then translating into a dystopic man versus machine battle, with an uprising spearheaded by Gerry, who gets close to deactivating ChatGPTNet only to be blown to smithereens by a killer robot suspiciously similar to the ED-209 from Robocop but with additional lasers, then I have the copyright to it, no further questions asked, and when THAT film gets made, I'm rich

INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

The room is dimly lit, and soft music plays in the background. EMILY (late 20s, curvaceous with a quirky charm) and IhateJJ (early 30s, ruggedly handsome) lie tangled in bedsheets, sharing a mix of exhaustion and intimacy after a passionate lovemaking session. They seem emotionally drained and vulnerable.

EMILY
(whispers)
You know, JJ, I can't believe we spent all that time and money on our poker movie.

IhateJJ
(hugging Emily close)
Yeah, I know. We put everything we had into it, but every door got slammed in our faces.

EMILY
(defeated)
I thought our script was solid. A perfect blend of drama and comedy, with characters people would love.

IhateJJ
(sighs)
It was, Em. But the movie industry can be a real heartbreaker.

EMILY
(teary-eyed)
I just don't understand. We had such a unique take on poker, the mind games, the bluffs, the human drama, and the church scene that nobody had done before. We even spent hundreds of dollars on lawyer’s fees, printer ink and stamps! Hundreds!

IhateJJ
(smiles, trying to lift her spirits)
Hey, that's still hundreds more than some filmmakers start with!

EMILY
(leans on his chest)
We were even 3x honored, but it wasn't enough. We were so sure this was it, our big break.

IhateJJ
(caresses her hair)
You're not alone in this, Em. We gave it our all, 13 years of hard work in our spare time. That's something to be proud of.

EMILY
(burrows her face in his neck)
I'm just afraid of failing, of never making it in this industry.

IhateJJ
(kisses her forehead)
Hey, listen to me. This doesn't define us. We're still the same dreamers with a passion for storytelling. We can't let this one setback bring us down.

EMILY
(looking up at him)
You're right. It's just tough, you know? I had this vision of our names up there on the big screen.

IhateJJ
(smiling)
And we'll get there, Em, just not with this poker movie.

EMILY
(nods)
I guess we should start looking at other options, right?

IhateJJ
(kisses her gently)
Exactly. We've got each other, and that's the most important thing.

EMILY
(teasingly)
Well, that and our steamy love scenes!

IhateJJ
(laughs)
Can't argue with that. But seriously, we've got a whole world of stories to tell. Let's explore new ideas, new genres like blackjack or keno!

EMILY
(leaning in for a kiss)
Sounds like a plan, partner.

IhateJJ
(whispers)
Partners in life and partners in filmmaking.

EMILY
(smiling)
Yeah, that's what we are.

They share a passionate kiss, rekindling their hope and determination.

IhateJJ
(whispers)
Ready to start a new chapter?

EMILY
(nods)
Definitely. Let's go all in on our dreams, again.

They embrace, their love stronger than ever, and the camera pans out as they look into each other's eyes, ready to face whatever comes next.

FADE OUT
A bit of an M. Night Shyamalan twist at the end.

I was expecting Ihatejj to inform Scarlett mid-sex about how he’s going to stick with this 3x honored script for the rest of his life and never let the dream of people pursuing him to buy it die. Then, after he climaxes, he would inform her he’s clearly trolling and there is no script.

But I kinda like the unexpected sappy twist you added. Came out of left field.

a look at craps,
a look at blackjack (including a swim-up-to blackjack table)
a look at sports betting

Even ChatGPT was hesitant to provide too many details about the church scene, lest it be sued.

Wait... you gave me a great idea. Get a hold of Phil Hellmuth. Okay, more accurately, work through Brian Balsbaugh and Poker Royalty to get a hold of Hellmuth. The phone number is (702) 868-9003.

Not only did Hellmuth collaborate with Tim Molyneaux for a poker-themed stage musical, but he was supposed to be the featured celebrity player in Rounders. As you may know, the original script had such lines like "you put an f-ing move on Hellmuth, you son of a bitch" and "sorry, Phil, I don't remember." The man ultimately has the highest of show business aspirations.

Thirty-five years later, you could give Hellmuth that moment of glory so cruelly denied of him by John Dahl Brian Koppelman and David Levien. On top of that, rewrite the scene such that it has exactly 17 lines – one for each bracelet won.

Anyway, good luck and tell us how it goes. We'll be here, waiting with bated breath.

I expect Hellmuth has already been cast/committed to "Barbie 2, The Poker Movie" replacing Ryan Gosling's Ken, as "Phil", "Ken's Much Older but Hotter Brother".

And they would probably like a scene in I assume the only church in the world that has casinos on the wall next to the altar.

Lol, responding to your own post to keep the thread alive in the hopes an A list celebrity who likes poker finds this thread about a 15 year old script. B
