This is a list of the top 100 users of water in the Las Vegas Valley.

Brian Rast shows up at #33.

Should we all be offended and get the pitchforks?

Yikes, Phil Ruffin show-up on list too.

So does one Richard Salomon, possibly Rick Salomon of Paris Hilton and poker infamy, coming in at #10.
I think both Phil Ruffin and Rick Salomon played in the One Drop Event. Maybe One Drop should also highlight the water shortages here in Las Vegas and down river in Imperial Valley.

Also noticed a William Baxter (Bill Baxter).

Topping the list in 2021, a 16-acre property in Spanish Gates with ties to the Sultan of Brunei. That property had been soaking up the most water for several years--using more than 13-million gallons in 2021.

Spanish Gate Holdings Inc. 99 Spanish Gate Dr 13,109,000
Trophy Hills Residence LLC 901 Trophy Hills Dr 10,320,000
Lorenzo J Fertitta 1609 Enclave Ct 8,027,000
John Lagerling 1641 Enclave Ct 7,008,000
Joel A Laub 15 Eagles Landing Ln 6,304,000
Dana White 1005 Trophy Hills Dr 6,284,000
Raymond P Park 93 Spanish Gate Dr 6,189,000
Timothy M Veile 23 Skybird Ct 5,636,000
Fertitta Family Trust 9400 Kings Gate Ct 5,212,000
Richard Salomon 9028 Players Club Dr 4,615,000

"We're at a point where every single drop matters," says Kyle Roerink, Executive Director of the Great Basin Water Network.

"There's there's a lot of value in reporting on this list, because across the West, across the nation, we need to have a conversation about how we're pricing water and how we're using water, especially for aesthetic purposes," says Roerink.

Before you get those pitchforks out please keep in mind the casinos are actually the biggest water users

Seems like a bit of a stretch to have this in NVG, as I'm not sure how to discuss this that keeps it related to poker rather than politics/policy/community-related. But I'll leave that for NVG mods to decide on and try not to be too political myself.

It would seem silly to have "pitchforks out" for a few individuals when there are a lot of bigger issues with water in the Southwest. That said, I think some criticism is fair, and hopefully if they get some there might be a little introspection as to what they can do to reduce some pretty ****ing obscene water usage numbers. One can completely ignore/deny climate change and yet still have to realize the Southwest has a really ****ing huge problem with water. Hard to see how this will be solvable without some pretty extreme measures at some point, and/or spending a shitton of money, and the longer the problem persists, the more extreme the measures taken and money spent will need to be.

Here’s the list of casino water use for comparison:
https://www.ktnv.com/13-investigates...users-revealed

The top casino (Mandalay) used 530 million gallons, compared to Rast’s 2.4 million gallons. Still seems like a lot for an individual, considering Mandalay has over 3,000 rooms, plus the wave pool/lazy river, etc.

Yeah, it makes it seem worse, really. To put it in perspective, the average American uses around 100,000 gallons per year, the average Canadian uses 33,000, and Europeans 14,000. I'll note that's just from some quick Googling and calculations, and it could well be those figures aren't all arrived at in exactly the same way. But I think it's close enough to provide some useful context.

On the flip side, I wonder how many people are involved in that 2.4 million gallons. Likely not enough to bring it down to 100,000/person, but it's probably not as bad as it sounds at first blush.

Which shouldn't matter, because it's tough to put much of that to use in the home, but...

Exactly.

Call me crazy, but maybe massive green lawns aren't all that sustainable long term in the desert.

As the OP, I posted this here only because I stumbled across it randomly and found it interesting (especially since it listed addresses of some big names).

I posted it here because it seemed gossipy and I thought others would find it interesting. I thought tying it to a poker name would qualify it. I meant nothing political by it, and it was all meant pretty much tongue in cheek. I don't really own a pitchfork and wouldn't even know where to aquire one.

I do think it would be the bomb if Brian Rast a actually responded and tells us what he uses all of that water for.

I can't even comprehend how the original article was posted to the internet. How the hell do they just allow people's addresses like that posted to the internet?

Maybe in vegas but nationwide agriculture accounts for 80% of water usage. Which is why i giggle when people rage because their neighbor waters their yard a few times more every month than they should

Out of curiosity I'm going to compare my US and European water bills and see if there's a big difference.

it's all public info to begin with, that's the exact reason why so many are listed under holding companies because they don't want some rando to look at town records and know who lives there - frankly i'm surprised how few are done via holding companies

This is an absolutely mind boggling amount of water for a single residential home to be using . I looked up his address it's not like he's living on a 5 acre estate.

Oh it’s 100% appropriate for this to be a post

Isn’t that the purpose of the list? To name and shame.

Great catch

That's what I thought. That's also probably the main thing that makes it NVG worthy.

Right so we as poker players can try and handle some part of the list.

There was one WSOP maybe 5 or 6 years ago he was giving a bracelet speech droning on about how important climate change and the environment is.
