I say fair play to her and good luck, she has done very well for herself.

Having the ability to be accepted into MIT *AND* graduate from there is having 'everything handed to her on a silver platter?' And then parlaying intelligence and drive into acceptance into Yale Law School?

While I know that many clients don't care about legal pedigree, I give props to someone that had the chops to get the JD from Yale as opposed to being one of the ~60% that went to North Texas and passed the Bar.

I would not say it is an 'entitled attitude' people see but rather someone who is driven to succeed using their gray matter and, in the process, rubs too many in poker the wrong way precisely because of being 1) female, 2) lesbian and a player who made far more at the tables in a few years than many here will ever earn in a lifetime even in a real job...

Is there anything that I said that isn't true? Because if so, please tell me and I'll instantly take back my words. I'm not just saying that to try and win an argument, if I'm definitely wrong about something I'd much rather know because I feel foolish if I'm zealous about something and realise I was just wrong afterwards. I try hard to base my world view around facts, and as far as I know the fact is the southern states of the US, mostly the older generation, have a significantly larger percentage of right-winged conservatives than the rest of the US. Of course not every person and probably not even the majority of the specific group I'm mentioning fits the stereotype, but I used Doyle as an example because I've seen enough evidence for me to think he falls into that category. I also thought this was common knowledge and my comments were pretty benign. I really didn't set out to offend anyone, I set out to defend someone who I think is getting much more hate than deserved.

A poker player with a bad attitude? Say it ain’t so! I disagree with her politics but as a poker player, she is talented. The one thing I don’t like about her at the table is her inability to accept responsibility when she loses. She always blames her opponent for playing poorly rather than admit mistakes she may have made. But again, this is pretty standard for many players.

I'm not here to argue. But as you asked.
I think you already realize that your generalizations weren't true vvv

I'm not on here to argue. I just don't see what "older right wing conservatives" , or Doyle had to do with Vanessa, other than it seems to be a trend to shoehorn southern/ conservative bashing comments into any random subject.
Peace out.

Not quite sure why she was signed in the first place. Where´s the value? Will anybody ever think "Poker is cool because Vanessa Selbst does it"? Judging from her TV appearances, she is right up there with the least likeable people on planet earth.

My guess is she was cut loose and she no longer has an edge in bigger MTTs, so announcing her "retirement" is just her way of trying to save face.

Secondly, I don’t feel good about promoting poker as an ambassador anymore (I can’t tell amateurs they should come play online and it’s beatable for them when I don’t feel like it’s true).
This seems highly hypocritical on her part. Online poker was never beatable for >90% of the player pool. Replace "amateurs" by "My Ivy League buddies" and it seems way more credible.

I wish her well in trading. As she says, it's "really freaking difficult".

She rubs people the wrong way because she is very unpleasant

The female and lesbian part have nothing to do with it, at least for me

This is all I've tried to say, she is a miserable person, the world has plenty of them, she is one of them...

Pretty sure this isn't public knowledge (nor should it be imo), but did she disclose which firm/fund she's at?

I like her a lot and usually agree with most of her views that are considered controversial, but I just cant bring myself to respect her due to her absurd outbursts at live poker tables. She is either deciding to completely let herself go for some reason, or is unable to control her emotions, with both those options being equally bad.

Should go for an aggressive all-in on a well-diversified portfolio of Snapchat, Bitcoin and avocado toasts IMO

Selbst's law: a vanessa selbst nvg thread can't go more than a few points without the word lesbian.

It would be appropriate, help complete Vanessa's retirement from poker and provide closure for many for Vanessa to make a farewell post here to her beloved 2+2 community.

ftr, I'm a fan. Her hyper aggro game play did her well (for a time).

As far as her antics, meh, to each their own. I never judge people (until I do).

This is good for avocados.

Well... I hope she does well.

(Don't forget to follow Ray Dalio on Twitter and study up on Jim Simons and Renaissance Technologies)

Definitely. I heard millennials are into avocado toasts. That market's gonna booming. Just make sure not to buy avocados that are already ripe.

Probably nut low time to start a hedge fund. The economy is due for a correction in next 3 years.

In addition to holding straightforward long positions, hedge funds make volatility (options) plays (market direction unimportant), short sell, trade synthetics, do arbitrage, and do basket hedge plays/other sophisticated hedge plays, so the economy weakening won't affect a hedge fund's ability to operate and flourish. In fact, a volatile bear market is often a great opportunity for a hedge fund to clean up.

Vanessa Selbst qualified in law so I'm wondering if she's actually super good at math(s)?

If not she might struggle doing actual trading but might instead excel at the research side. Both areas are important for hedge funds.
