She didnt look that hot anyway---FYI
This might be the only truth in the "VR being a swimsuit model story." Somehow I can totally picture it.
IMO I agree with the "her real shots were rejected" theory. This coulda been because they were awful or just that they didn't fit into the magazine's format correctly. They usually have a bunch of non-model fit people related to sports for an unsponsored pictorial/special article section (ala NBA cheeerleaders, players hot wives, etc...) but these people are somehow groupable & there's always more than one. A single pseudo-attractive poker chick doesn't really fit into that scheme. Sometimes they'll include the odd-girl out towards the back but if they do she's always jaw-dropping hot...Maybe someone at SI at one time thought that there was the possibility of her having a jaw-dropping shoot but it looks like the photos snapped them back to reality. She's good-looking, for a poker player (& far from the most attractive female poker player), but less attractive than the average waitress in a nice restaurant. Just because poker is a pseudo-sport doesn't mean that pseudo-hot should make it in SI. There's a reason that "THE hot chick" in Women's shot put doesn't make it into the swimsuit issue.
I also just don't believe that she woulda been so excited to spread the news about being in the magazine if she knew that it was a paid spot the whole time. I'm guessing that once the news broke & it became widely known in the poker community that she was supposed to be in the issue, Pokerstars had no choice but to try to save some face by paying to have her in once they knew she was rejected. It woulda been worse for them if she didn't appear at all after she blabbed about being in it.
I hope that this weird situation with Vanessa doesn't shut the door on the possibility of a group of actually hot poker chicks making it in a future year!
This is all conjecture though, & if PokerGodEvil actually was there they should have the answer about whether or not it was supposed to be an ad the whole time...
**** me, I'm probably off - SI never has logos in their shots. Looks like it might have been an ad the whole time & they just "forgot" to mention it. Ether way it's still pathetic & makes me wish that "THE hot shot put chick" made it in there instead...
