I may be WAY off here, but wasn't Mike Swick a FTP Pro at some point...? I know Bruce Buffer and Matt Hughers were/are, but for some reason I can recall Swick being associated with them in some capacity as well.

you serious?

the endings were spectacular, better than most payperviews... Sure most fights didnt last long.

But wow at the arm snapping, the early BIG knockouts, and the megaclinch+30monster knees.

Another thing that most people forget about when they talk about the brain injury possibilities in MMA vs. boxing is the problem with knockdowns in boxing. When a boxer gets knocked down, they are given 10 seconds for the brain to briefly stop violently slapping up against the inside of the skull just in time for the fighter to regain some sense and get up to have it happen again. In MMA, you get knocked down your opponent tries to finish you off. To a casual observer it may appear barbaric to jump on your opponent while he's down, but in reality it's much safer.

How can brain trauma not be higher in MMA? 4 oz gloves don't do ****. I'd take 200 punches with gloves rather than 65 with bare fists.

I was somewhat happy when the guys sporting Full Tilt Poker won. They both won by pretty dramatic knock outs too which was cool. Then all their trainers and team mates came in the octagon sporting their FTP gear too. It was a good night for the FTP marketing squad.

I've thought about it since some people disagreed with me... and yeah, if you count headshots between boxing and MMA, boxing has to win hands down and by a huge margin. You can't really sustain that many hits to the head in MMA, but that turns out to be beneficial in terms of injury due to the fight being stopped or whatever. In boxing, it's 36 minutes of potential head pounding.

When you get knocked out your brain bleeds. So all the times the guy gets knocked down in a round then maybe he recoups during rounds and keeps going it can't be good. That's where the damage comes from.

the extra mass of boxing gloves adds to the damage they inflict. The theory about them being padded is BS.

Also for the most part boxers hit WAY harder than mma guys

I've heard that about the extra mass from gloves but I've also seen studies suggesting the opposite. I did see a show on TV where they tested various martial artists and boxers for punching power and the martial artists came out easily on top. I can't recall the show and the MMA guy they used was Bas Rutten so I'm not convinced of the accuracy of the results but it at least suggests that maybe boxers don't hit harder (or not much harder).

lol bas was a muai thai boxer before mma and is regarded as having some of the heaviest hands in mma ever.

sure some guys can hit as hard as top boxers but on average boxers hit much harder and cleaner.

Also another thing to consider the cutting of much larger quantities of weight for boxing, which can dehydrates brain fluid. Making severe brain injury much more likely

I generally agree that boxers receive the worst of it....but they don't get knees/shins/feet to the head....a clean shin connection to the head has got to count for a few hundred brain cells...

You think thats bad. Look at what happened to corey hill leg in the prelim fight. Never heard an entire crowd including the commentators to scream at the top of their lungs to stop the fight.
