U.S. cities with best poker culture (aside from Vegas and A.C.)? U.S. cities with best poker culture (aside from Vegas and A.C.)?

Aside from gambling cities like vegas and atlantic city, which U.S. city has the best poker scene?

The obvious answer is probably Los Angeles, due to the decent number of casinos and its close proximity to vegas. It just seems like poker is a much bigger part of the social scene there than in other cities.

NYC might be a second, due to all the underground games throughout the city, various home games at rich peoples' homes, etc. NYU alone has produced a decent number of successful high stakes players.

Phoenix is pretty good. Casino Arizona is on fire, 50+ tables. Lots of bar poker and young people, you can find home games if you look.

Two years ago you could show up and get in a 10-20 no limit game at the commerce and it would be the best game you've ever played in, now you show up and wait 3 hours... overall i agree completely that's it's not even comparable how much better poker is in LA compared to Vegas.

Why do you think L.A. poker is that much better than Vegas? The structure for the lower buy-in NL cash games at the L.A. casinos are god awful.

What? You posting a complaint with no facts makes you an moran.

Is it the 5-500 game? or the lack of no limit games? or your inability to win at full ring limit? Don't be a moran (thats right i repeated it), give up the facts.

hmm i guess ive never really played the lower buy-in games. What do they do wrong in the structure? Is it not a no-max buy in like the higher limits?

The max buy-in for 1/2 NL games are $40, 1/3 NL is $100 and 2/5 is $200.

Yeah, it's ******ed. No idea why that's the case. I'm going to visit L.A. in early August and was planning on playing 1/3 or 2/5 at the commerce, but after finding this out, I won't be doing so.

Do you live in LA? What makes LA poker better than vegas?

I'm kind of bias toward the commerce because a few years ago i was close to busto and I had about 2k left to my name and i bought into a 10-20 no limit game at the commerce for 2k, after about 10 hours I had 4k. I chose to pay the $100 a night to stay at the commerce and the next day I bought in for 2k and ended with 4k again. At the end of the month I had paid about 3k in hotel bills but had built up a workable roll of about 30k, sadly tho I left? for some reason and moved to Phoenix.

You should get yourself in the 10-20 games at the commerce two years ago, but since that can't be done maybe use your profit from 2-5 now; I know that the minimum buy-in at 10-20 is 600 but I would reccomend buying in for 2k minimum, there is no max buy-in and about once a day there would be a 20k pot when I was there..

this.

the cardrooms are all FULL of them, and being in close range for travel time, its never hard to find a game. We got Casino Royale, Capitol, Limelight, Lucky Derby. And ALL of them are massive breeding grounds for degens.

I love it
