I wouldn't say nobody has an edge. I've been watching some of this series and there have been plenty of spots where people have misplayed hands or made great bluffs/calls/etc.
However, the game seems a bit simpler and a lot of the mistakes are probably due to the novelty of it, with NLHE players not yet totally adjusted to how short deck changes ranges and hand strength. Stuff like pocket pairs that people are accustomed to playing fast in short-handed NLHE are just not that good in short deck a lot of the time. Even if you consciously understand that, it's probably hard to fully incorporate it into your game if you're someone who's been playing regular NLHE for years.
Ultimately, I think the game is likely to be a short-lived fad that excites people for a few years until it's "solved" by the average player and becomes more of a pure gamble fest, but maybe a pure gamble fest is what people want.
I do think it would be cool to see a short deck event at the next WSOP, and hugely +EV for players who bother to study and prepare a little bit, as new players to the format will register and play horribly.
