I voted greedy careless amateur but it really depends on which trophy:
a WSOP main title would mean a high probability of sponsorship therefor a bit more $$

I too am a greedy recreational amateur player with limited funds, and the appeal of tourneys is like playing a 50 dollar scratch off but with a bit more control over the prize at the end.

Pretty much only like playing tourneys online due to comfort (coffee, water, comfy chair, rightous PCP), speed of hands vs live, and yea, the chance to take even a ten dollar buy in to a G payout and take care of bills or buy something nice.

IF EVER playing a big deal live tourney like Main Event WSOP, then the title would be a nice addition. But live tourney hoopla doesn't interest me. I'd almost want to go out 2nd or third or get a good chop.

The next time you're grocery shopping bring the tournament title along and give it to the cashier. See how well that works and than wake up to reality.

Best case you get a bad beat story from the cashier.

i dont understand these people who place so much value on a "title" (apart from rich amateurs ldo). it's a goddamn poker tournament, your name isnt being etched into some great place in history and a win isn't a testament to your skill level as a professional. nobody cares.

poker tournaments have always been about the money for me, and always will be

I think a good portion of poker players are detached from the non-poker players reality. Some people play poker for the thrill, enjoyment, challenge, etc. Not everybody is strictly focused on the dollar bill. Some people play to win it all, not just play to win cash.

Kind of like NASCAR, sure you can make a comfortable living finishing 4th - 15th, but sometimes it's just nice to win an event and hold the trophy.

If a person chooses to dedicate his/her time to a particular field/competitive area, getting recognized as the best or the winner is certainly a nice accomplishment.

yea but that's winning an event against the absolute elite of the world that isn't predominantly luck based and can lead to tons of endorsement deals

if poker tournaments weren't basically gloried lotteries i might be proud if i ever won one.

there's a golf pro whose name i forget that lives and plays poker in vegas. as of a few years ago he had about 8-10 mil in golf cashes.but that's pure skill not went on a heater won every flip sucked out a few times never got sucked out on look at me and how great i am luck.if i won 8 mil in poker tournaments i'd be glad for the money but honestly would prefer nobody knew. if i won 8 mill in golf tournies i'd be proud of myself and i don't even like golf.

Level of talent in a Poker tournament can very widely (like a golf tournament or tennis tournament for example. The bigger tournaments with higher payouts tend to draw more talented players), that doesn't mean that the players that are competing shouldn't value the trophy that comes along with winning. We have no idea the amount of study/practice (or lack thereof) they've put into the game and the trophy can be a physical reminder that the hard work being put in is not going to waste.

I personally think the online community has ridiculed "LOLDONKAMENTS" to the point where the skills needed to win a tournament Main Event or a prestigious Side event are actually undervalued or underappreciated.

In regards to NASCAR Drivers being the best and most elite in the world, how can you confirm that? Isn't it possible that there are better more elite drivers elsewhere that just don't want the hoopla or media attention that comes with NASCAR and would prefer to remain anonymous?
