but what about when david busts out with the word "slick"

i.e. slick advertisers, slick salesman, slick this slick that.

when he uses hotshot and slick in the same sentence i am going to know that the apocolypes is upon us.

Sorry I can't tell you who it was. Even so I thought his comments were worth repeating.

You might be the only one that thought that.

Tunaman?

Seriously, what is the point of this? I strongly disagree with the OP's usage of "pooh pooh" isntead of "poo poo" or "talks **** about". Also I would have to agree that if anyone else had made this thread they would have been flamed really hard/thread deleted/possibly (and justifiably imo) temp banned. That being said David I really appreciate (almost) all that you have done.

Has Sklansky met Singer?

I've never talked to Singer, but based on his play and his demeanor he really does not strike me as a "game theory guy".

But anyway the whole "game theory guy" label is overapplied. If you ever play with Bill Chen you realize that there is a big gap between theory and practice.

Also Bloch and Singer are clearly on big heaters regardless of what their skill is.

If you read the 'Market Wizards' books about great traders you'll notice there are many different styles of investing. Various legendary traders talk about their methods and ideas but very often part of the interview is devoted to rubbishing another technique, even categorically stating that it does NOT work. This can be fundamental analysis, technical analysis, trend-following, contrarianism, Elliot waves, Japanese candlesticks or whatever. Then you flick through a few pages and find someone else who has used precisely that method for becoming a billionaire.

By analogy I am fascinated to listen to intuitive "feel" players discuss their approach to poker but I am not remotely interested in their views as to why a 'game theory' approach doesn't work. All they are really saying is that it doesn't work for them. You can fade the rest.

It's a mixed game player, as Sklansky wouldn't be sitting in a 1500 NL Holdem event, educated guess.
It's someone humble enough to have a conversation like this, that isn't an asshat, educated guess.

I'm going to say it was Amnon Filippi. Final Answer.
I'd guess David Williams...

Well... of that list 3 work about as well as astrology...
But it's all the same to amateurs.

Math/game theory strategies vs old school skills...
Is a legit discussion because both work.
