Pressure would be on a celebrity to donate all winnings to One Drop. That being said, and knowing their EV vs pros, would it not be better to just donate a milly to One Drop?
I'll never forget the first time I saw this video. Prince's solo just removed every gram of oxygen from the room; the guy rewrote a classic with one two-minute guitar solo.
And then, to my disgust, he simply dropped his guitar and strutted off-stage. Basically putting down both his fellow musicians (who had created the wall of rock on which he painted his masterpiece) and the beautiful Tele with which he'd done it.
I lost huge respect for Prince at that moment; when I re-watched the video just now, I was crushed again at the end.

I agree completely. He was basically saying, "I'm too cool for you guys," and left. This was a tribute iirc. Not cool, man.
Before he became famous, Tom Petty (TP) was in a bar band called Mudcrutch. They were from Jacksonville Florida which is nicknamed Hogtown. After Mudcrutch broke up, Tom Petty started a new band called The Heartbreakers. Their first single, "American Girl" contains the line "Take it easy baby, make it last all night." The OP is claiming he came up with this line while the band was jamming at some party out in the middle of nowhere. He claims the line refers to making weed last all night. This checks out, as Tom Petty is a known weed aficionado and many of his songs contain references to it.
Actually, Gainesville is nicknamed Hogtown....UF 91...go Gators.
And then, to my disgust, he simply dropped his guitar and strutted off-stage.
He doesn't drop it - he throws it up on the air, and it doesn't land. (Probably, it was caught by a technician above the stage). Prince is known for doing this at his concerts.
As Tom flies into Vegas he remarks 'this old town'
Tom hops in a car with the mil in his back pack
Tom tells the driver to head for the Rio
after a few minutes the driver appears to be heading for Brasil he yells to the driver 'turn this car around'
with the car heading on the right way he chats with the cabby who's normally a 'night driver'
the cabby asks Tom what brings him to Vegas, Tom replies 'big weekend' to his new 'refugee' buddy
Tom arrives at the Rio and heads straight for the cage to buy in
the girl in the cage asks if he has the cash
Tom says Don't worry 'american girl' I'm 'ankle deep' in cash
the cage girl quickly jams the cash down the slot
Tom asks where does the money go?
the girl answers 'straight into darkness' sir
before Tom walks away she wishes good luck
Tom looks back and says proudly 'I won't back down'
it's time to draw seats and Tom draws a very tough table and feels like a like 'change of heart' he desperately yells for the tournament director 'jack'
Early in the tourny He folds a big hand and wants to see the villains cards of course he points to the cards and says 'I need to know'
Tom gets heads up with Doyle a match of 'two gunslinger'
Tom runs a big bluff on Doyle to take a slight chip lead Doyle asks did you have me that hand?
Tom replies 'you tell me'
Tom gets QQ goes all in, Doyle has AA and calls
Doyle fades Q on the flop and Tom just mutters 'don't do me like that' to the dealer
about to see the turn Tom yells 'here comes my girl' but no luck yet
the river is held up for a tv camera tape change, Tom hates 'the waiting'
of course Tom spikes the Q on the river and all the Doyle can say is 'you got lucky'
the post win interviews leading question, is
'too much ain't enough' Tom?
Tom replies, I got 'the best of everything' today, I feel so good like I'm 'free fallin'
but honestly if I didn't cash I would have had a 'breakdown'
Confirmed overindulgeant machismo, imo. Prince just showed he wasn't a Wilbury there. He was trying to be the star on a stage of stars.
Try again, Metro-Boy.
But this thread is about Tom Petty. Lets all just hope that when he gets to the point, and starts to roll another joint, he don't know how Wretchy feels at the Vee.
And then, to my disgust, he simply dropped his guitar and strutted off-stage. Basically putting down both his fellow musicians (who had created the wall of rock on which he painted his masterpiece) and the beautiful Tele with which he'd done it.
He threw it to a tech, who caught it...apparently not uncommon for him to do, so he didn't just drop it and break it and strut off.
Maybe doesn't change the arrogance factor, but its Prince...and its Rock n Roll.

Interestingly, Tommy Angelo and I had a private conversation about that and he mostly persuaded me that "Prince gotta Prince". That is, that you can't expect him to flip a switch after the last note and suddenly be Mr. Congenial and Part of the Gang. If you want the guitar solo that brings tears to your eyes (and it damn near did), and that comes from Prince reaching down and putting his heart and gut into the strings, then you're gonna get his heart and gut when the music stops.
Fair enough.

"And it's nice to know that no Telecasters were hurt in the making of this video."
P.S. Toto version was a little too mellow for my taste, but the guy certainly shredded the guitar solo.

Reason: Toto - who knew?
I've played guitar my whole life and I'd never seen that video..thanks for posting buddy! Really beautiful...I'm wondering how much of the solo was made beforehand and how much he made on the spot. It wasnt that spectacular if it was completely constructed beforehand...if not, unbelievably good.
Anyways, one of the best performances I've ever seen as a whole. Went into the category of "Will watch that every now and then until I die".
For some reason that reminded me of Dave Matthews All along the watchtower in Woodstock..which is in the same category for me.
Breaking News this morning from the music industry and the poker world as musician and international superstar Tom Petty has just been confirmed for the BIG ONE for ONE DROP $1,000,000 buy-in poker tournament. Petty timed his world tour perfectly and will be leaving from Germany and coming straight to Las Vegas, Nevada where he will be competing for the multi-million dollar 1st prize at The Rio Hotel and Casino on July 1st, 2012.
Petty, not known as a poker player, could not pass up the opportunity when told that a large portion of the prize pool would be given to charity. Petty has been tied to many charities including: Midnight Mission, EarthWorks, Sierra Club Foundation, Safety Harbor Kids, Red Cross, and many others.
Tom Petty hopes his participation will help to promote the cause and tourament into the mainstream media. Petty has always been an active environmentalist via his participation with Sierra Club and Earthworks and he hopes that his participation with the One Drop Foundation will be just as successful.
