Nothing to do with triads. Rumoured to have won a bunch last year in the 1province/2province game against the ruling oligarchs. Now secretly owns ~2/3 of China. Chinese govt were furious; hence the recent crackdown on Macau. Ongoing currency wars with China can be interpreted as US govt challenging Dwan to HU. You need to understand the geopolitical context.

Wan Kuok-koi? are you kidding me? this guy was jailed in 1998, 1 year before macau was transferred back to china. triad was fading in HK&macau ,I think you could easily figure out the reason. the nosebleed game in macau isn't underground， you actually could watch them play in a distance if you were there, the ups&downs in the table is no secret, some chinese poker player posted it on weibo sometimes.

BTW,according to winfred yu who runs the poker king club，Dwan has a strong backer(malaysia billionaire businessman) and doing very well in the big game.
