Tom Dwan - the missing man Tom Dwan - the missing man

I saw a video of the recent opening of pokerking where Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan appeared - he was laughing and joking with everyone and seemed to be in very good spirits (unlike some of the other videos we've seen where he appears tired/stressed). Unlikely that's the demeanor of someone in deep with the Triads...

But an anonymous poster's buddy in Macau passed on a rumor so I guess that's pretty credible.

no. why are you obsessed with physical harm? thats not the only thing the triads can do to him. not that it matters because who knows what he's doing or if he's really even in debt to them.

pretty much anything they want. use your imagination. sure it would all boil down to physical threats if it came to it. but if he owes them big money they could make him do anything they want. what is he gonna do about it? call the police? lol

so you're telling me that they don't care when people owe them money? whether or not they do anything about it if he does indeed owe them money doesn't not make it a bad idea to get involved in the first place.

do u even understand what a staking deal means?
him being in makeup doesn't equal him owing them $$$.

and lol when I ask you what these non physical things they're going to do to him your response was "use your imagination" and "obv it will come down to physical threats ".

no idea why I'm even responding to u.

Would you count enslavement as physical? Surely that would be the first option. Lifetime enslavement in a sweatshop or something.

we don't know if he is in makeup or in debt. or if the triads even care about the difference. all we were told is that he is "in deep" with the bossman. and if the deal ends with dean in makeup i have a hard time believing that it would just be forgiven. of course none of this matters because it's all based off rumors anyway.

or something more likely like being forced to be a drug mule for a few runs.

From the amount of people who would probably know and have hinted that Tom isn't in the best spot right now, you can probably rule out the fact he is crushing these games on his own dime.

Jungleman gave a interview a couple of years ago when talking about the durrrr challenge saying Tom was involved in "triad-y things" and there have been many many podcasts/interviews where friends of friends of Tom will never directly say anything but clearly hint he's not having a great time in Macau

Also reminds me in the first or second season of HSP, Doyle (think it was Doyle, but was def HSP) said that Dwan was "in deep to the wrong people for a while" but was never elaborated on, yet sounded scary as ****. That's obviously paraphrased but it was clearly some bad **** that he got into and owed the wrong kind of people

He must be in financial difficulties since he did not afford a suit for a grand opening of a lavish casino..

They would probably not kill you because you cannot pay them back then. I remember someone that owed a ton of money to a certain place. They took his stuff and told him he still owed them. They may threaten you but if you are really hurt, how can you pay them back? That is bad business. Not saying they would not do other things to you. But I could definitely see the story to be true. I am not sure the staking arrangements but they cannot be great from a loan shark. Regardless if it is the triads or not.

What? Wouldn't season 1-2 of HSP predate Tom Dwan being relevant in the poker world by several years?
