Wishful thinking. Not to rain on the 'one time' parade, but this really isn't going anywhere. Nothing is going to come out of the super-double-secret-catfood-2-committee. It was set up to fail.

The republicans appointed will not agree to a single cent in new taxes.
The democrats appointed will not agree to gutting medicare and SS.

The two sides can't even agree on how to count the money. Deficit panel must confront alternate realities

And the 113th Congress will fight over credit/blame as they roll back the default committee-fails budget cuts.

There are still possibilities for legislation passing. But IMHO the super-duper-committee is not one of them.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but as the article states, the AGA is not pushing for the super committee to consider it. It's not quite this simple, but...

No AGA > No Reid > definitely No Kyl > very, very small chance

The point is that it doesn't matter whether it is slipped in or not. Nothing is coming out for Congress to vote on. Like the article I linked says, the two sides can't even agree on how to count. How are they going to reach a savings target? $40bn doesn't matter at all when they can't even agree on where $0 is.

The committee will deadlock. The default cuts will hit. The 113th Congress will proceed to make election-year moves by rolling the cuts back on hot-button items like medicare and defense.

They don't have to reach the reduction target to still pass a package. Many predict that this committee will fail and what they mean by that is it will make no significant changes to entitlements/taxes but still pass some smaller, weaker measure. We all know this will gridlock, you aren't telling us anything new, but that doesn't mean the committee won't try to get something less substantial done.

Poker can fit into this process. DUCY?

If there were enough money coming out of a legislation like to this to forge a compromise, you would be absolutely right. But it seems impossible to find another couple of trillion in this way.

Believe me when I say this, Harry Reid has AGA approved poker legislation in his desk. When the time comes for the committee to hash ipoker out, Reid will push this into the agenda. Frank and Barton are not sternly supporting their methods of legislation and will settle on whatever Reid/AGA proposes.


Your looking at this backwards. You should be asking if Barton and Frank will settle, not Reid and AGA.

Agree with the above, I deduced this a while ago from the FPUSA thread when marisa was implicitly conveying that they were not supporting any current bill but it wouldn't be out of the question that they would show support is the 'right' piece of legislation came along at some point.

Is this really the most productive place to post all of these personal manifestos specifically detailing your problems w/ the government? Is this really the most productive place for you guys saying that this will never happen?

I realize that those posting probably think that it is but I guarantee that its' not.

If you want the world to know what you think about the government go start a blog, go post in a politics forum, go to the street corner w/ a soap box and start handing out pamphlets. The people reading and posting itt are adults w/ their own opinions, they already know about the shortfalls of our government, and they saw what happens to their livelihood/hobby/whatever-poker-means-to-them when they sat back and did nothing to try to help support it. Now they're trying to work towards getting it back. Of course, every single thing that's done isn't going to magically fix all the problems but if a lot of us join together and keep trying then maybe eventually some of those things will have a positive affect.

Life is what you put into it; if you constantly put in negativity, you will get only negativity back in return... (1/2 joke there, I'm really not going to post my personal manifestos on any topic here itt )
