Why the silence from ike, Ivey and Admo? Shouldn't Tom be held accountable for issuing a challenge and not finishing it? At what point do people stop giving him the benefit of doubt and force him to pay or play?

Wouldnt it be more of reneging on a bet? Scamming is jacking someone for money on some level.

I'd say he was a reneger, but not a scammer.

When the durrr challenge was put out there, it was PBF...Dwan was running hot and I have no doubt that he had the resources to pay his end of the challenge.

I don't for a second think that he thought to himself "hey I'll screw Cates." I think he just can't pay up, unless he can find a way to do so by completing a bunch of prop bets.

reneging on a bet and scamming is the same thing.

I bet New Orleans tonight, not looking so good, so I'm just gonna renege on my bet cause I don't wanna be a scammer

Scammers have the intention to scam from the beginning, so I wouldn't call him a scammer.

I think he's just broke or in debt so there's no way he can make any reasonable payment, finish the challenge, or offer to settle.

This. When I bet on the Saints, my intent was they'd win, and so would I. Now that I realize they suck even more than I could imagine, I'm just gonna renege

Reneging on a bet and scamming are two different things. Calling Durrr a scammer for not upholding a challenge is silly. If you don't trust him to renig then don't make a prop bet with him, but it's not like he stole any money.

EDIT: Also, making statements like when are they going to force him to pay or play is ludicrous, you can't force someone to do that legally. The people that think Durrr is a scammer are probably the same people that think Mike Matusow should be Ted Forrest's eternal slave and make payments on that 1.8 million dollar bet for the rest of his life. It's just not realistic. We live in a world where people lose friendships over 40 bucks. Forcing someone to pay 7 figures when they have the option to just avoid/ignore you forever is just not realistic. Maybe it's not right, but it's just the way it is.

Absolutely. Justin Archuleta is a scammer, he scammed 280k from peoples accounts. Tom Dwan did no such thing. He just reneged.

A better poll for this OP would be (if it was possible to block the date of it) - which year was this thread created?

I doubt 2014 would do too well.

Scammer, No. It needs to have intent/be planned from start to finish to be a 'confidence trick'/Scam.

Untrustworthy and becoming a kind of Opportunist (to avoid paying out).. Yes.

He has lost respect from almost the entire poker community.. He may not give a crap and that the communities respect isn't worth 1.5 million..

At the same time it is a valuable lesson to everyone to have contracts in place for bets like this because even the people you think are trustworthy just aren't when huge sums of money are on the line.

Haha this is so completely wrong. If you spend > three seconds thinking about it then you can see why.

My favourite prop bet move is Dneging.

Bragging to everyone that you can win a certain prop bet, come up with ridiculous terms for it, then not even bothering to start it

Dude I just don't believe in getting your panties in a bunch over prop bets. Maybe it's because I don't engage in bets that often or maybe it's because people have welched on bets before and I just got over it. It seems peoples favorite past time on NVG is to point the finger and judge and call everyone scammer or scum bags on the internet. Why is that such a favorite sport of NVG?

People have ridiculous standards of ethics for others when it's not them that "owe" millions of dollars. I guarantee you people would change their tunes if they owed or were perceived to owe that much money.

A scam is a confidence game...

The only way it could be a scam is if durrr set up the entire challenge specifically to defraud Jungle.....which would make it one of the most crazy/elaborate scams in history.

He's a deadbeat. Not a scammer.
